dialysteven,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

What monitor do you have that is giving you this message? Try turning off the monitor and the system then unplug the monitor from the video card and plug it back into the card. You can also plug the monitors power cable directly into a wall outlet bypassing any power strips or surge protectors, if it isn't already plugged into the wall outlet.

Jesse I tried all that, I even bought a new video card.  It still doesn't work.  I have a feeling it's probably my motherboard, when i turn my computer on I don't hear any beaps.

I know for a fact that it's not the monitor, because i plugged it into my laptop it worked.

What do you think?

dialysteven,

If that is the case then, email support@dell.com and troubleshoot with a technician to determine what is defective and have it replaced.

as far as i know abt this issue, its a known issue with dell and there are only some solutions

1. clearing the nvram sometimes take are of it

2. reseating the video cards sometimes take care of it

and if these 2 do not work god alone help you, coz even dell and dell moderators do not know anything abt it

so a sincere and urgent request to do something abt this issue

Have u tried swapping it with another monitor (one that you know works fine)? If the problem persists w/ the known good monitor it must be a bad motherboard because you've replaced the video card. If u have an active warranty though there's no need for you to purchase a motherboard (same w/ the video card). you can call the tech support group for the replacement.

thx fer the info, though i already know it, but this is a issue with the recent new out of box 4600 and why does not dell accept the onus that its a known issue and try to release some patches or stuff like for this

try calling the tech support group for assistance. you may have to reseat the video card. happens sometimes. also, ask if there's a known issue on the 4600. their# is 1800-8228965

best option wld be to call dell technical support and troubleshoot with the techs there since it will most probably end up in a video card replacement or motherboard replacement and u will have to trouble shoot with the techs b4 they can send u the replacement and hoping that dell will have provided u with the technical support number

this is totally unacceptable. I am now working from home because of this issue. While not a bad thing, I can't hit my plotter from here. the machine is only 5 weeks old and I should not have to break into the box. the tech support told me to reseat the video card and all other kinds of voodoo. the next smartbox will be a systemax. absolutely unacceptable. mike

i know that not all customers are tech savvy, but it's actually in the contract that we, as customers, should be willing to troubleshoot (open the box & reseat stuff)...
