monitor is on power save
when I go to turn on my computer the system boots but the monitor doesn't turn on. when i push the buttons it says that power save mode is on and to move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard. I did that an dnothing happens. I've checked the connections and everything is pluged in. the surge protecter is fine. what is wrong with the monitor and how do i fix it. I just got the entire system less than a month ago. am i going to have to order a whole new monitor?

When you reboot, is your problem gone for the day after the reboot?
The last two days my monitor (2405) would not start as I began my normal "first of the day" boot sequence. I see NOTHING on the screen. No normal boot screens ... Nothing. Simply black.
I'll look again tomorrow but I think the on/off light goes from green initially to orange shortly after I start the boot.
Anyway on this first daily boot, the computer keeps booting and I hit the on/off monitor button a couple of times. Finally, as WinXP loads, I get a screen that has a zillion tiny bar codes ... i.e., patterns that look like small colorless evenly sized/spaced bar code patterns that are spaced about 1/4 inch apart and cover the screen. The bar codes themselves are about 3/8" by 1/4" or so. I can still barely make out my wallpaper and icons behind that pattern.
When XP loads and I can safely shut down and reboot, all comes up seemingly perfect for the rest of the day. That is I now see the normal boot screens where it is loading devices, etc. and then WinXP loads just fine. Subsequent attempts to duplicate the error throughout the day don't recreate the error. Even if I shut down and leave the system off for 30 minutes.
But next morning .... same thing. I don't think it is XP Video Drivers since it is my Boot Screens that are not coming up and those would be loaded well before XP loads any ATI Video drivers.

It is possible that simply plugging / unplugging the video cable and perhaps re-seating the ATI video card would have been enough, but I had a spare cable so just replaced the cable.
If anyone cares ... this 2405 Dell is really a magnificent monitor. If you have the desktop space, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Razor sharp and you can use the settings in your Video Card setup to adjust brightness down to a usable level.
Finally, the response time really is fast enough for truly enjoyable "gaming", even First Person Shooters which is demanding indeed.
