Monitor issue after updating drivers

Last night I updated the video drivers for my video card, as well as downloaded some windows updates.

I got the drivers directly from Nvidia, and ran their .exe with no problems.

I finished the windows updates and then it stated "system must be rebooted for updates to finish"

I then rebooted the computer and now the monitor stays in sleep mode (No signal is going to the monitor)

I can still hear the tones of Windows starting up, but I see nothing.

The computer seems to pass POST with no issues (no error tones)

All system and video card fans seem to be working properly.

Any assistance on how to troubleshoot these issues would be appreciated.

Basic System specs:

Alienware Aurora ALX

Display, Flat Panel Display, 22 AW2210

I7 - 3.20

Nvidia GTX 260 SLI

6 GB RAM

Hi Celtic69,

I suggest you check if the system works in safe mode. Restart the system and at the Dell logo, keep tapping the ‘F8’ key multiple times (twice every second). This will bring up the advanced boot options, select Safe mode and wait till the system loads up. Once on the desktop, please follow the steps mentioned below.

Go to Start, control panel, Programs and features. Locate the NVidia software in Programs and features and uninstall by right clicking on the Software.

Restart the system once uninstallation is successful. Once the system boots normally to Windows, download the latest driver once again from the link below.

I will attempt to get in to safe mode, however, with the monitor not waking up I cannot tell when the dell logo comes up.

Thanks for the assistance.

I am unable to tell if I can get in to safe mode, as the monitor remains in sleep mode.  Is there a way to check to see if the monitor is working properly?

Hi Celtic69,

We can try connecting the monitor to a different system and check if it works. We can also swap the power cable of the monitor to the power cable of your desktop and see if it works. This will let us know if there is an issue with the power cable. We can also try connecting the system to a TV or a known good monitor and check.

I hope this helps
