Monitor malfunction

I have a Dell Optiplex 580 running Windows 7 with a Dell E2011H monitor connected by an analog cable.  The monitor is showing behavior I have not seen before.  Windows do not show the close/minimize buttons, but if you position the mouse where they should be the description does pop up.  That is the small problem, the bigger one is that when you click and drag windows around on the screen they leave shadows, as shown in the image below.

These shadows don't appear over other windows, just on the desktop.  I have replaced the video cable, and checked the monitor settings and drivers, all seem correct.  I have about 5 of this pc/monitor combination and no others have this problem.  Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Hi,

To isolate the issue with hardware or software, let’s run the diagnostics on the computer,

To run the ‘Dell Diagnostics’

  1. Power off the computer
  2. Restart the computer, press F12 on the Dell logo
  3. Select ‘Diagnostics’ from the boot menu
  4. Please refer to the link if any error code shows up
    http://dell.to/MNniAq

Please check with a different monitor if you experience the same problem.

Alternately, try the below mentioned steps:

  1. Click on the link http://bit.ly/PxdR9Y
  2. Click on Run now
  3. Download and save the file and run it
  4. Restart the computer and check.

If the above step does not work, then run the diagnostics for the monitor,

Here are the steps,

  1. Unplug the video cable(s) from the back of the computer or monitor. The monitor then goes into the self-test mode
  2. Press and hold the Button 1 and Button 4 on the front panel simultaneously for 2 seconds. A gray screen appears
  3. Carefully inspect the screen for abnormalities

  5. The color of the screen changes to red
  6. Inspect the display for any abnormalities
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to inspect the display in green, blue, black, white screens

Then reset the setting of the monitor to Factory Defaults.

  1. Press button 3 on the monitor. (refer image)
  2. Choose ‘Other Settings’
  3. Press the    and   buttons to move between the setting options

  5. Choose ‘Factory Reset’
  6. Press the   button to go back to the menu
