monitor p1130 fuzzy

This is a new monitor and in the mornings the display is fuzzy, I can restart the machine and the monitor will be clear and before my eyes it will go fuzzy. What can be causing this?

bukey2,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Here are some things to try and resolve the issue that you are having with the monitor.

  • Eliminate video extension cables
  • Perform monitor reset
  • Decrease brightness & contrast controls
  • Lower video resolution or increase font size
  • Moire control may need to be adjusted

I have had the same problem with Multiple Monitors that are coming in with my 260's. Replacing the monitor seems to work, for a while anyway, but then it starts up again. what is going on with the latest cycle of monitors? I am having a high percentage of issues with this problem. Well , to quantify, no real issues with previous models of Dell monitors, now, 5 calls on this same issue in 4 months. Thoughts?

Ironicly that is why i was cruising the boards this morning.

After I had changed out monitors and it was still going fuzzy I replaced the video card and so far so good..it has been 2 weeks and the user hasnt called to report it going fuzzy again, so I am assuming the video card was going bad. I willo update if the monitor goes fuzzy again.

I have the same problem with my monitor. I bought it refurbished for $220, which I think is a good price for the condition it came with. Unfortunately, it went blur after an hour's use, I kept it on a left home, came back after 2 hours and it was fine. I complained to the seller and generously he offered to replace it for me, and so he did. And then guess what? .. you know it all, yes it happened again with the new monitor, it went blur again and can't do anything about it because after an hour or two it goes back to norman. I still have a month warranty on it but I really like it when it runs well. Its delaying my work as it kicks anytime, and goes away anytime. Has anybody fond a way out of this problem? Please help.  My question is ..

WHAERE  ARE YOU DELL PEOPLE? WHY ARE YOU SO QUITE ABOUT THIS COMMON PROBLEM?

Al.

How do you perform monitor reset other that to switch it off and on?

June 10th, 2003 15:00

I came to  check on this same problem.  I have about 500 of these monitors in my building.  They have been installed for about a year and a half.  I have had about a half dozen of these P1130 monitors with the reported symptom of the screen getting blurry, especially when started cold.  Just as one of the previous posters mentioned, I swapped out one monitor for getting blurry and a few days later the same user called back sheepishly to say that the same thing was happening.  My first reaction was "NO WAY", but on one occasion, I saw it for myself.  It seemed to clear itself up though, after about a week.

When this problem comes up, it looks like it HAS to be the monitor, it isn't a fuzziness that could come from the video (and in fact, we have some workstations with video cards instead of the on board video and both types have had the issue).  I don't know if it is part of the symptom, but several users have reported a loud SNAP associated with the fuzziness.

I am beginning to take this problem more seriously because of the increase incidence and now coming here I find the problem to be more ubiquitous than I had originally thought.  I would very much like to hear Dell's opinion of this.  BTW, this is NOT a problem with adjustments, or extender cables or settings or refresh rates.

Al....there is a reset funtion in the on screen menu.  Activate the menu by pressing the rightmost of the 5 buttons on the left side of the front of the monitor.

I have replaced several of the model p1130 with a p1110 and none has not went blurry. I believe the problem is with the p1130 model.

Onsitetech7 notices it is the same person (station), and not likely the cables because after changing out the monitor it happened again. Could it be user settings?

Have my special settings pushed the refresh or auto diagnoses capability of the P1130 too an extreme which causes that POP sound and readjustment? Albeit, readjustment goes to fuzzy. Is there a combination of monitor settings in conflict? I run on a Mac OS 9.1 system and have done an expert setting to accommodate my artwork. Did I push the envelope? I know resolution and dot pitch are math ratios that work or don't work for visual results. I understand that flat screen is dot true dot, and there should be no problems with dots attempting to override each other's edges. This is a Trinitron, after all. Which causes me to think of one more possiblity. Is the signal to the monitor adjusting for a curved screen, thereby somehow spreading the dot light to overlap?

All I know is I NEED a SOLUTION!!!!!! I cannot risk my eyesite, work, or sanity on this problem for long. My husband has a valid saying which sure fits this circumstance, "Too much technogology!"

Anyone who has a solution, please email me.

Our friendly tech here has one suggestion I have a problem with. He suggest increasing the font size. HYE! I'm here to create font sizes for design output! I cannot tell my client the art is specific to my Dell to compensate fuzzy P1130s.

My fuzzy screen was apparently temporary. I am not holding by breath, but it is a delight to see a crystal clear screen. The fuzzy episode began with a pop, fuzzed in and out all day Saturday and Sunday. I did a lot of searching for information dispite the fuzz. Gave me a headache! Forget the art deadline, I was looking at a career deadline! The Dell reply said reset, which I'm wasn't sure what to push other than the on/off switch. I did that many times and would have a clear image for 2 minutes. I toyed with the moire setting as suggested, set all the point lands on 50, did the Dell monitor control panel while looking at fuzz, and a number of other adjustments just looking for what might mean something. Then I noticed that time spaces between a sharpening event were extending. When a sharpening would happen it would be a minute apart. Then it grew to be 3 minutes apart, then 9 minutes. After a while they were very infrequent, but then suddenly came sharp snap, twisting of the image, another snap fizzz sound and a settling which left the screen sharp, bright, clear and with clean color. That was 4 hours ago and it has remained sharp. I do believe a self diagnosis and adjustment came about after I changed the moire setting. Reset degruss, Reset convergence. In otherwords, I reset everything that would allow me to reset. Something seems to have worked and I'm back in love with my Dell, and if I can manage to stay awake, I might get the job done.

I replaced several p1130 and p992 monitors everyday because of the fuzzy and popping, It is some kind of defect with the monitors, dell has not owned up to it but I replace enough in a day to know that it has nothing to do with the user settings. The fuzzy and popping will come and go and in time it will need to be replaced.

I have exactly the same problem.

My first P1130 gave this problem after two weeks. Dell replaced it.

My second P1130 gave this problem after two years. Dell refuses to replace it: they claim the warranty has expired.

THIS WHILE CURRENTLY, the same monitor is offered with 3 years of guarantee.

I am greatly disappointed at Dell's service. This is obviously a manufacturing flaw and I can't understand why Dell refuses to take responsibility for this.

If Dell doesn't change their mind soon (I have issued a third ticket about this problem), this will be the very last order I've ever made at Dell.

I to have this same problem with My Dell P1130 monitor. I have tried all the things the moderator has listed to but no avail.  The problem was fairly intermittent at times now it's an everday occurance.  I too have the loud SNAP every once in awhile and it is rather scary.  I work with CAD on a daily basis so I cannot live with this issue. This fuzziness is driving me nuts!  I am ordering a new monitor today from NEC and giving up on this P1130.  Time for the dumpster drop!!
