Monitor stand match up with different model?

I have a Dell 17" 1708FPT monitor with no base. However, I have a friend who has a couple of older model bases, one is from a model E178FPb, the other is a E176FPf. I realize the original base is better and has the height adjustment, etc, but I'm wondering if the older bases will match up to the newer monitor? My friend is not exactly close by or else I'd just try it myself. Thanks
