Monitor start button blinks

Hi, I am using a DELL Dimension 4600 desktop (circa 2004) with the lcd monitor that came with it. This morning as I sat down in front of it, the computer being off, I noticed that the monitor on/off button was blinking the familiar green color it is when it's on. Every 2 seconds it blinks. Pressing the button did nothing. I started the computer, and although it booted, the screen remained black and the button still blinked. To make a long story short, I removed the monitor and attached it to an old computer of mine and it still blinked. So I know it's the monitor and not the computer. I put the monitor from the old computer on the 4600, and all is well. Does any one know what is wrong with my lcd DELL monitor, and is it fixable? Thanks in advance. :emotion-6:

Does anything appear on the monitor when you turn it on while it is not connected to a PC video card? You didn't list the monitor model but is it set for your video card DVI or VGA?

Hi, Thanks for responding. I am unable to turn the monitor on or any thing else. As long as it's plugged in the on/off button just blinks green about every two seconds. The monitor model ie an E172FP8 flat panel. It came with the computer and is set for my video card since 2004. However, as I mentioned it blinks even when attached to a different computer, and the monitor from my old computer works fine on my 4600.

It sounds defective to me. We do not have repair information. Go here or here.

ChrisM, Thanks for going to the trouble to find the info. I guess it's done. I won't be doing repairs on the monitor as described as I'm not schooled in such things. I guess after 6 years I can't complain too much.  I will be looking for a new monitor with a larger screen of course.
