Monitor Stuck in Power Save Mode

My monitor has suddenly decided to stay in power save mode.  The message I have on the screen says "Monitor in power save mode, activate using PC.  Have it set to turn on with my mouse, but nothing happens.  The monitor did have a display issue for about a year.  The colors were dull and I had lines running thru the screen.  Didn't bother me and was hoping to have a new computer by now, so I kept using it.  Is there a chance this monitor is a goner?
Thanks for your help.

Olorcain,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Push in the power button on the front of the cpu to see if the system will come back on.

Jesse,

The system itself is not in power mode, just the monitor I guess.  The green light is on, its always on.  I have pushed the button so the system will reboot.  I can hear the cpu going thru its gyrations, but the only thing I get on the monitor is that message.  I have also taken the cable off to make sure pins were not broken, and I have unplugged the monitor from the surge protector and tried plugging just into the wall.

Well, I did a test and hooked up the monitor to my friends laptop and the monitor seems to be working properly.  The next step says to check the video controller.  So since I am clueless I wasn't sure how to check.  The pins on the cable are not damaged.  Will I need to install a new video card?

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, my monitor is doing the exact same thing. The little green light on the front just blinks, and when I press one the buttons it says "monitor in power save mode. Activiate using PC." The PC starts up fine, it just seems as if it's not sending any video out...
