Monitor Stuck in Power Saver Mode
Hi,
I was recently uninstalling Microsoft Office Visio, and following the reboot, the pc was running, but the monitor displayed nothing and was displaying the amber light. After a manual reboot it worked fine. Yesterday I encountered the same problem but once again it worked fine after a couple of reboots. However, today my monitor refuses to display anything. The pc still boots up fine, fans working, POST is all good, etc. The monitor still runs a self test when I disconnect the DVI-D cable, so I'm pretty sure the cable is not faulty. I've followed all the instructions on the Dell support website but still nothing works. I've read a few threads regarding the same problem, but I've noticed most are solved by using a different DVI-D slot on the pc itself, however there only seems to be one slot on my pc (I'm running Dimension 9150). I originally thought a video card problem but that does not explain why I was able to get it running again the last couple of days. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked that the cable is solidly attached? Sounds stupid and obvious, I know, but I was experiencing something very similar just this very morning and it turned out that the DVI cable had managed to work itself loose to the point of almost being off altogether.

Yes I have, I experience the same problem when I hook up my pc to a different monitor, using dvi-d or vga cords. My monitor self-tests correctly which indicates nothing is wrong with my monitor and the connections are sound, as the monitor recognizes it is connected to a computer, it is just behaving as if the computer is switched off and goes straight into 'power save' mode. I've spoken to a couple of technicians and the general consensus seems to be a video card failure, so I'm thinking of replacing it tomorrow. I was running nVidia 6800 which is getting on a bit these days so I need a new one anyway. I hope this will solve the problem -
i've had friends with similar issues and they have had to replace the whole motherboard, but as everything on the pc seems to be working fine (gets through POST ok) it seems unlikely.

If you have a vga proble next to your dvi.If you do look for a blue connter.cheak and see on your monter.if so hock it up and see
