I have no listing for a p996 monitor. Take a look on the monitor to make sure what model you have connected to the system. Once you let me know the correct model I can post some information.
If you cannot see anything on the monitor you are not going to be able to reset the monitor or degauss.Perform the monitor self test to see if it shows the color bar.
This monitor is equipped with a self-test feature. The self-test feature check is used to determine if Red, Green and Blue colors are working. It is also used for when there is a No Video/LED on condition. It was not intended to verify image quality or jitter issues.
If there is a problem with your monitor perform the following steps:
Press the (power) button to turn off the monitor.
Disconnect the monitor’s video signal cable from the computer.
Press the (power) button to turn the monitor back on.
If the monitor is functioning properly, the self test message will appear.
NOTE: This box also appears during normal system operation if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged.
NOTE: While in self-test mode, the LED remains green, the pattern is stationary and remains on for 60 seconds. The pattern will appear if any of the front panel buttons are pressed (excluding the power button).

jare,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
What is the type of monitor that is having the issue? Try resetting the monitor. You can also degauss the monitor to see if that will help.

All I see on my screen is a compressed field horisontally. It's about 4 inches wide, and runs from top to bottum.
So I can't take the test, don't see det window that appears. Or I see it, but only dodgy and compressed.
I'm starting to wonder if I need to get my monitor replaced.
