did the monitor come w/ a software disc? just go ahead & install the software. when u say it's not recognizing the monitor, are u looking at device manager or are u just referring to a no-video situation?

Thanks for your advice.  I was looking for a device driver.  The wizard found what I needed.

Best,

The device manager doesn't even show that I have a monitor, I have good graphics and good picture, but it all is to large and I have no way to reduce it to my monitor size, I don't have a disc just for the monitor but I have ran the Drivers and Utilities disc and still nothing.

scboyd,

your need to increase your resolution if eveything is too large. right click on an empty space in the desktop wallpaper & click on properties-->go the the advanced tab--> move the slider to the right (a simulation of what your screen would look like will appear in a picture shown just above it.

Rache623, I  really appreciate your input on this matter, I have tried time after time to do what you have suggested but my computer, since I installed the new hard drive, does not recognize the monitor, in the device manager, it doesn't even have monitor in there, I really think what I need to do is remove XP from my computer and start from the beginning but can't seem to get that done either. Thanks again

Rache623,I have the 4500S, everything was working great until I put the hard drive in, I had a lot of trouble getting sound but finally worked through that, with a lot of help from others but this one is a hard one to figure out, my brother teaches computer's in college and he is trying to help but hard for me to explain everything I have done and everything others have told me, he tries to tell me in computer terms and I am self taught on this thing and I need english language.

what type of dimension system do u have? there's rarely a compatibility issue w/ monitors but a LOT for video cards. would u know what type of video card was shipped w/ your system? --> you may take a look at the packing slip for this one...

The 4500S comes w/ an integrated video, i'd like you to get your dell dimension resource cd & follow the steps in this link:

Rache623, I really appreciate your help, I have done everything you said and when I got to the device manager, there was no Intel 845 G/GL Integrated Video in there, the only thing there was,SM Bus Controller, Universal Serial Bus Controller and Video Controller, that is the ones that had the yellow question mark. If I had more hair I would pull it out lol.

Video Controller

SM Bus Controller & Universal Serial Bus Controller

PS: Install the Chipset first using this link even if you don't see any bangs in device manager. reboot every after an installation & you should have a functional system afterwards.

Rache623, You are a blessing, when you gave me those last 2 links to go to I got the name of the driver and I worked with it until FINALLY it all came together, the one link let me extract the driver and from there it was just reinstalling it and doing the adjustments and now it is back to how it was. You have no idea what it means to me that you took the time to help me out. Thanks so much.
