New 2407WFP-HC (backlight?) flickering

After 3 months of flawless performance, my new 2407WFP-HC began flickering occasionally, as if the backlight was having slight power brownouts. The flickering lasts for a few seconds at most. Time between flickering episodes is anywhere from a few minutes to hours.

I have plugged an incandescent light bulb into same power source as monitor, and bulb does not flicker during these monitor episodes, so power source apparently is not the problem.

Immediately before monitor flickering problem began, only change in XPS420 Vista box was attempted installation of IDT audio driver from Windows Update. Had to use Windows Restore because IDT installation caused problems. A day or so later, monitor problem began.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Is sudden monitor (backlight) failure possible with these symptoms? Would appreciate advice or helpful information.

Thank you!

Update:
Since posting above message, have determined flickering problem exists in safe mode.

it happened to me too after having my monitor for a year.

i shipped it out to a repair company yesterday to get it checked out, i could not get help from dell directly.

i'm crossing my fingers it's the inverter and can be repaired.

Update:
Thank goodness for this forum!

Found time to do more searching of this forum and learned that some monitor backlights begin flickering if brightness is below a certain level.

A week or so before my flickering began, I had reduced brightness using Catalyst Control Center (to make long hours of text reading easier on the eyes).

Yesterday, I elevated brightness to previous level, and the flickering has been reduced significantly, and I suspect it may disappear in a few days.

Thanks folks.

Update 2:

Returning to original, trouble free brightness level improved monitor performance for about 25 hours.
The monitor is now flickering often.

Although flickering is quite annoying, am hesitant to ask for a replacement after reading of others receiving numerous problematic replacement monitors. Don't know what to do.

I guess this is what we can expect with an immature technology.

I now view my 6 year old Dell 19 inch CRT more favorably. At least it is a mature technology.

Thanks again folks. If you can offer any helpful suggestions or advice, I would be grateful.
