New 3007wfp resolution problems

So I just got my 3007 today, hooked it up and no problem, I get an image on my display. However, it only is showing in 1280x800. So I tried bumping it up to a higher res, and it doesn't work. I'm using an ATI x800xl 256 meg AGP card. I've had no problems bumping the res to 1600x1200 when I use another 21 inch widescreen LCD that I have, so I thought I should be able to do the same here.

If I bump up the resolution on the monitor, I'm forced to pan the screen to see my entire desktop. So I'm having a physical resolution of 1280x800 but a virtual desktop of 1600x1200 (example).

In reading through the posts on here about the 3007, I saw that it really only supports two resolutions. 1200x800 and the monster 2560x1600. Well my ATI card only goes to about 2100x1200 something or other.

Does this mean that I'm to use the 1200x800 resolution unless I buy another graphics card? I looked on the Dell website at the tech sheet for this monitor and it doesn't say anything about this monitor having only 2 resolutions.

I am very dissappointed. If I can't find another solution to my issue, Dell will be receiving a nasty letter from me.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Chris_Wimpy,

Go here <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> and read the section on Preset Display Modes. Notice it states;

These are the Dual-link video cards that Dell has tested on the 3007WFP:

DVI-I ATI Radeon X1900 XTX
DVI-I ATI FireGL V7200
DVI-D NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
DVI-I NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2
DVI-I NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GX2
DVI-I NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX

Hi,
I see that Dell tested the Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX with their 3007WFP, but on the dell web site, it's impossible to buy that video card ????
Will this be possible in the future or not al all ?

Thanks

Chris, I'm having the same issue as you.  I've had my 3007 WFP for a month, and tried everything I knew trying to change the monitor's resolution from 1280x800 to the native resolution of 2560x1600.  Finally today, I contacted Dell's tech support.  Two tech supports could not fix the issue.  The 2nd said my dual Nvidia GeForce 6800 SLI Ultra Extreme cards (256MB each) may not be compatible.  She could not confirm her statement.  She suggested I contact Alienware, the mfg. of my computer.  I will follow through her suggestion and call Alienware another day.  I'm too frustrated to continue for a while.  FYI: Dell has purchased the Alienware company.

Hi Chris,

I have the solution to your problem!  Just today, I resolved the same issue with my 3007 WFP monitor after having it since the middle of December 2006.
I could not use any resolution except 1280X800.

I have talked to 3 different customer service associates at Dell, and neither of them could solve the same problem you, myself, and many others are having.

Before I purchased the 3007, I called Alienware, the mfg. of my computer, to see if the monitor would work on my machine.  They said yes, but adding an additional Nvidia 6800 GT PCI Express 256MB card would allow me to utilize the monitor like it was meant to be viewed.  I purchased a 2nd card (342.53) and I still had the same situation.

Next, I make my first call to Dell, and I was told my graphics cards were not compatible.  So, I purchase an ITI Radeon X 1900 XTX 512MB card ($429).  Will you believe I still couldn't change the monitor resolution any higher than 1280X800?  I'm steaming at this point, and about to explode.

I decided to leave a message at cnet.com's forum.  I got the answer as to how to correct the resolution problem.

Dell only encloses a SINGLE LINK DVI cable.  It is necessary that you have a DUAL LINK DVI cable.  When I installed my new cable, instantly I was able to have a monitor resolution of 2560X1600.

I talked to a Customer Service Supervisor at Dell today!  I exploded on him.  He told me Dell only includes a SINGLE LINK DVI cable with their 3007 WFP 30" monitors. (WHY ?????????????????????)  I was advised that someone from their corporate office would contact me with 24 hours, to discuss my situation.

I will be sending a letter to Michael S. Dell, Founder/CEO/Chairman of the Board.  Hopefully this situation will never happen again to current, and new owner of their 3007 WFP 30" monitor.

Now that I am able to utilized the appropriate resolution, my games, and other programs look incredible!  I am so empressed with the quality, and now can enjoy my monitor for the first time since I purchased it nearly two months ago.

The End!
Tommy
