No display after boot up?

Hi

I have been having an intermittent problem with no display after booting up my computer.

This problem started about a couple of months ago when I had a system crash. After rebooting there was no display. So I rebooted again and it was fine. this happend quite a few times.

But now it is happening a lot more when I just boot the thing up, or if I restart my pc. It also seems to take a lot more attempts to boot the thing up before I get my display back.

On some occasions I get the Dell startup screen, followed by the Windows XP screen. I eagearly await the blue welcome screen, and nothing happens. The screen just goes blank. Sometimes I get a message stating "In power save mode" (which is odd as I have this disabled)

I am very frustrated, and would gladly welcome any advice if anyone has had this problem, or any ideas?

My system is:
Dimension 8300
Dell 20FP Monitor
Pentium 4 3GHZ 800FSB
1GB DDR RAM
ATI 9800 PRO Grahics card

Many thanks.

MESSG,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You may need to get the monitor replaced. It sounds like it may be defective.Email support@dell.com and have them replace it for you.

Seriously? I've only had the system for about 8 months.

Are you using a Flat Panel Monitor via DVI digital connection??  If so, then you may need to upgrade the video driver & possibly reset an EEPROM in the LCD.

MESSG,

I have emailed you the DVI zip file. Install it to see if that may resolve your issue. Please edit your Dell Forum Profile and include your system service tag.

Thank you for your replies. I will try The DVI file and let you know.

Ok

The DVI file didn't make any difference.

I have installed the latest ATI drivers and it seems to be ok at the moment.

Which begs the question. Why was I having this problem for the past couple of months? Where it previously had been fine.

Is there a problem with my Monitor?

Thanks

If you are using an ATI card, then there is a setting an advanced Dispaly propeerties, to lower the DVI refresh rate on high resolution LCD's
