OSD text problem on D1025TM (17" Trinitron)

One day, when I switched into a 1024x768 video mode at somewhere around 75-85 Hz, my monitor displayed a speaker icon near the lower left corner. It disappeared after I switched out of the mode a few seconds later. Ever since then, the text on the monitor's OSD has been messed up. Here are some of its new terms:
(monitor's term - everyday term)
CENTR - color temperature
SALIR - geometry
TAMANO - language (displays a "locked" symbol when selected -- won't let me change it)
PANTAL - center
ZOOM - exit
OPICION - size
AST BRILLO/CONTRASTE - brightness/contrast
Screen, zoom and option don't have any text below them at all. Also, in some of the subscreens, some icons shift one space to the right, but return to their correct positions when highlighted. Other than brightness/contrast, the titles at the tops of the OSD screens are OK.

Also, at any refresh above 15 Hz, there's a bit of an "echo" for about 1/8 inch to the right of any sharp contrast For instance, when a black vertical line is displayed on a white screen, about five light lines appear to the right of it, fading our after about 1/8 to 1/4 inch. They're barely visible at 75 Hz, noticable at 85 Hz and quite pronounced at 100 Hz. The resolution doesn't seem to matter, only the refesh rate.

I've tried resetting the monitor via the reset button. I've even tried leaving it unplugged for days, but nothing seems to help. Resetting does reset all of my screen modes, but doesn't have any effect on the text or echo. I've also tried degaussing without success. This has been a problem for over a year now, so leaving it be doesn't help.

http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/monitors/55341/controls.htm tells what each control does. Your language is set to Spanish, I think. If it refuses to unlock, possible repair may be needed. There is a GEM button, set it to standard or try the settings, see if that helps the ghosting. If there is a VGA extension cable, remove it and see if that improves the picture. Higher refresh rates reduce flickering but degrade clarity, you have to pick the best compromise. My neighbor has that monitor, and it is very clear.

You're right, it is Spanish, but the captions are shifted over to the left by one. I KNOW that "zoom" isn't Spanish for "exit." It's as if it's reading the captions from a place in its ROM that's a bit too far forward, and refuses to change languages because it's set to an invalid language. (It's an annoyance, but I can still adjust everything, navigating by the icons.) Thanks for the tip about the GEM button; "graphics/video" mode produces a similar effect. However, the ghosting remains in all modes.
I found 85 Hz to be a good compromise. It's very clear with slight ghosting, though not quite as clear as my other computer's LCD panel.

LCD is always clearer on text. Good to hear you found a good setting.
