Built on January 19, 2017. The P2417H USB hub and cabling are version 3.0 but downward compatible to older versions. I have never heard of the monitor USB hub failing out of the box.

* Turn the computer and monitor off
* Disconnect every cable from the monitor (USB, power, video)
* Disconnect all USB peripherals from the monitor (mouse, keyboard, drive, NIC)
* Press and hold in the monitor power button for 15 seconds
* Reconnect only the power cable and one video cable to the monitor
* Turn the monitor on, then the computer

* Open the Windows Device Manager
* Open Universal Serial Bus Controllers
* Are there any listings for "Unknown" ?

If yes =
* Find the one that is not recognized, right click it, click uninstall
* Close the Device Manager and reboot the computer
* New hardware should be found. Open the Device Manager and verify that there are no unknown devices

If no =
* While the Device Manager is still open, reconnect the USB upstream cable from the monitor to a USB 3.0 port on the computer. Does new hardware appear?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.

I have followed your instructions and when only the power cable and video cable are connected to the monitor with both devices powered on there are no listings for "Unknown".

When I connect the USB upstream cable from the monitor to the USB port on the computer, new hardware appears in the Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers as: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

This laptop originally shipped with Windows 8. Sony has listed the following that will not work in Windows 10. I wonder if the USB failure with the monitor is part of this.

Go here and install any Windows 10 drivers from Sony. Reboot when done. Then run the free Intel Driver Update utility and see if it installs any newer or missing drivers. Then test the monitor USB upstream cable on both of the laptop USB 3.0 ports.

If still no go after all of that, get it exchanged.
