P2815Q - Cannot run multiple sources

I recently purchased a P2815Q.  I actually really like it.  I am not a gamer, nor a very technical user.  What I do like with this monitor is the size and clarity compared to what I was using.  My main system is an Apple Mac Pro, connected through the DisplayPort input on the monitor, and that works great.  I also work on a Dell Inspiron notebook all day as well, and had been using the HDMI input to run my Outlook (easier on the eyes).  Recently, the monitor stopped recognizing any inputs other than the Apple on the DisplayPort.  When I switch the input to HDMI, it just shows the "No HDMI Cable" floating note.  I thought it may be a bad cable, so I tried a new one - Nope.  Maybe a bad port, so I tried a VGA-HDMI cable - Nope. Maybe the notebook no longer supported dual monitors for some reason, so I tried a Dell Precision notebook - Nope.  I found a HDMI-MiniDisplayPort adapter to see if it was the HDMI input that was not working on the monitor - Nope.  How can I get my notebook to connect to the monitor again?  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated -- by my eyes mostly!

I have an E6320 with mini-HDMI and VGA ports.  The mini-HDMI was working just fine, then just stopped working.  That is why I tried a different cable, then the VGA port, then the Mini DisplayPort, then a Precision M4400.  I don't think anything is wrong with the monitor.  It was working great, but just today started to have some resolutions problems (There was a big ios X update yesterday.)  I can't see the info on the menu bar now, but I am thinking that is adjustable with resolutions.

* Turn the E6320 and P2815Q off
* Disconnect the P2815Q power cord from the bottom of the monitor
* Press and hold in the P2815Q power button for 10 seconds
* Connect in this way =
E6320 mHDMI out --> mHDMI to HDMI cable --> P2815Q HDMI in (Disconnect all other video cables from the monitor)
* Turn the E6320 on
* Turn the P2815Q on
* Press the monitor Menu button
* Choose Input Source HDMI
* Exit the Menu
* You might have to tell the E6320 to engage the external monitor. There might be key that does this or you do it in Display Properties
