P780 Fades Into the Sunset.

I've got a four year old dell Dimension 4100 with P780 monitor that I gave my husband and yesterday the monitor just went to black.

 

It acted like it was using the energy star monitor standby but it won't wake up. I tested the graphics card by hooking up another monitor, it works fine, that's what he's using now.. an ancient NEC..

 

the P780 I got to work one time after failure off a laptop. Then re-hooked it up to the Dell and it ran for about 5 minutes and went to black, just grew darker and darker and darker to black.. at one time the little light by the power button was cycling from amber to green and back.. then it just went amber as if in standby..  

 

Any ideas or is it trash? I've been looking at a nice non dell flat panel for him but didn't want to spend the money till after Christmas..

 

It's running off a Dimension 4100 with a agp video card.. the nec is working fine, the dell is dead.. that nec is 8 or 9 years old also.. and still works.. it's a total boat anchor.. but..
