Please help on a 2209WA technical problem

Hello,

I am an owner of a 2209WA model monitor. It was purchased on March of 2010.

Recently I have found that there was a grey streak visible in the centre of the screen, and ran a diagnostic test as prescribed on the forum.

I was not able to reproduce the problem on STFC, but on FPDBIST I found that the streak was more a grey smudge across the left centre of the screen when viewed on grey background.

I would certainly like to fix the problem because the problem is glaring enough to be distracting. If not serviceable by myself I would like to request a warranty replacement, but I am having trouble trying to find the Order Status tied to my account, since it does not show any order beyond two years in the past and I understand that the monitor originally had three year warranty period. If there is any way I am able to obtain a copy of the order stub or shipping confirmation I would be very grateful.

Additional information on the monitor follows:

Monitor 20 digit Serial PPID number = CN-0H736H-72872-01A-1R4L
Monitor ports tested = DVI, VGA
Video card and ports tested = AMD 4870, AMD 7950, DVI and VGA
PC Model = custom build Intel X79
Operating System =  Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Have you updated the video card driver? Yes, tested with Catalyst 12.11 Beta, 12.6 Legacy
The monitor was listed on Device Manager

Once again, any help in the matter is greatly appreciated.

overpass,

Please post a picture of the smudge on the grey background during FPDBIST. Are you saying the smudge doesn't appear on any other color during the FPDBIST?

Chris,

Yes, the other colours do not show such smudge as far as my eyes could tell. I've found on normal usage that on any colour darker than 40% grey it becomes more apparent.

I've included the pictures of FPDBIST test on colour grey on the following links, which were the best my camera could capture given light conditions and I hope are useful.

Hi,

I have the same problem. What was the outcome with the repair? Mine is no longer under warranty, so if there is a quickfix, please let me know. If the repair cost is to high, I may replace it.

Hi tommyinoz,

If the above symptoms persist in Self Test Feature Check and Flat Panel Display Built-in Self Test, then a replacement is required.

Dell does not repair the monitors, instead we issue a complete unit replacement. You may consider buying another monitor.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi Saharsh

This problem started in December last year and is progressively getting worse. The monitor was manufactured in July 2009.

What exactly is the cause of this problem?

This monitor is just outside the 3 year warranty, it would be a great shame to throw a monitor of this quality out so soon.

Since Dell do not repair monitors, do they at least offer a favourable exchange?

Hi Tom,

I understand your concern, but unfortunately a favorable exchange option is not available. You may consider purchasing a new monitor.

Please reply if you have any questions.

This is not a good reflection on Dell monitors. Short lifespan, with no option of repair. And the monitor is in its first year out of warranty.

Hi tommyinoz,

Thank you for sharing the perspective, appreciate it.

It appears that the monitor has been fully functional for close to 3 years time. Also, there are no known issues with this series of monitor. You may experience similar issues with any electronic device (Dell or non Dell), over a period of time. The warranty on your monitor has expired; unfortunately, we do not have any support options at our disposal.

The build/design of monitors may not allow viable repairs. Dell recommends a replacement if the Monitor diagnostics have failed. However, you may want to check with a local technician to see if a more economical repair option (work around) is available.

Do reply if you have any further questions/issues. Will try my best to help you.
