Power, but nothing else... E771p

hello all...

i use a Dell E771p Monitor with a G4 Mac.

it's been fantastic for just over a year now (funnily enough, the Warranty has just run out!), but the other day, it just stopped working!!?

when i try to boot my machine, the monitors light changes from Amber to Green, the monitor makes its usual clicking noises, and then gives up... the light returns to Amber, and that's it!

Is it kust broke? or is there something i can do to fix it?

Any thoughts, will be gratefully received, so thanks in advance?

rors,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try the monitor self-test by following the information below. If the monitor checks out ok then, maybe reseat the video card.

Monitor Specific Troubleshooting

Self-Test Feature Check (STFC)

Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:

  1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor.
If the monitor is functioning properly, you will see a flashing RGB box with a white border and black text inside, as shown in the following illustration:

This box also appears during normal system operation if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged. This box will remain on for one minute, go off five seconds, then on for one minute, and will repeat cycle.

  1. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor.
  2. While in self-test mode, the LED remains green and the pattern remains on and stationary.

If your monitor screen still remains dark after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

Same problem here. I run the self test and the little box showed up. I checked the 15 pin plugin and it's not broken. There is no sound card or video card that I can remove either.  I can't figure out what else to do. I'd appreciate any help at all. Thanks very much.

hmmmm... it's a tricky one!

i gave my monitor another try the other day... just perched on a low chair. connected it up, and re-booted my Mac... it worked perfectly!! Hooray!!! So, I shut-down... dis-connected everything, put the monitor back in its usual position... re-connected everything, and re-booted my Mac... Nothing!!!?? Boooooooo!!!!!

What the funk is goin' on!!????

I really can't figure it out at all... i got a new video card coming the week after next so balls to it!!

I haven't tried to zap the P-RAM tho..?
Boot your Mac whilst holding CTRL + ALT + P + R (apparently your Mac will 'chime' twice to let you know it's done it??)

anyway... good luck m8... post again if you have any joy!
