Power Save Mode

I just turned on my computer and the LED Light on the monitor stays orange and the screen stays black. After pressing a button on the monitor, the screen says that its in Power Save Mode and I need to touch the keyboard or mouse. I touch the keyboard or mouse, but nothing happens. How do I get out of Power Save Mode?

ajbrunner14,

For whatever reason, the video card is not sending a signal. Restart the PC.

ajbrunner14,

What Dell PC model? Remove all UPS and surge protectors from the equation. Plug the PC and monitor power cords directly into the wall socket.
* Power the monitor on
* Power the PC on
* What color is the PC power button?
* Is it flashing?
* What color are the four 1234 Diagnostic Lights on the front of the PC?
-or-
* What color are the four ABCD Diagnostic Lights on the back of the PC?

The tower itself is a home built type of deal but the monitor is a dell flat screen...what kind I dont know.... The PC power button is solid and green. not sure where the 1234 diagnostic lights or the ABCD diagnostic lights would be on this tower....

We have been having the same problem with the upstairs computor which is a not a Dell. The wife went and bought a Dell flat screen for it (as she hated the old bulky type monitors) when I bought myself a new one and told her she could have the old one.  She has been complaining for the last few days about her monitor not working so today I looked at it and "it is in Power Saver mode".  there is nothing I can do to get it out of that mode.  I've tried unpugging it from the wall socket, tried disconnecting it from the computor ( when I do that it goes to seldf test and shows the red-green-blue color test), soon as I plug it back into the PC it goes back to power saver mode.

It worked fine for about 5 months that she had it until last week, I see I'm not the only one with this problem, how do we get it out of this mode??

I figgured out how to fix the monitor, turns out it was not Dell's problem.. seems there can be a multitude of reasons for monitor going into power saving mode
