Problem with 2407FPW - Static like interference

I got my new XPS700 a few weeks ago and when I first set it up with the 2407, the screen was distorted like a TV with bad interference/static. I would also display/paint 2 copies of the screen, offset from each other.I am using a single 7900GS video card connected with DVI connector. I played around with it for a while, tried the analog adaptor (didn't help so back to DVI) swapped power cords and checked all settings. After several reboots, it went away and has worked fine for about 3 weeks or so. Today when I turned on the PC, I started getting the distortion/interference again and can't get it to go away. I have not moved the PC, I checked all connections, I did a reset on the monitor (from the monitor menu), rebooted a few times and it still won't go away.

Any ideas as to what is wrong? Thanks in advance.

Since this is new XPS700 a few weeks ago, call Dell Tech Support and you may need service in home, follow your warranty policies first.

Static on the 2407 display and redraw errors, intermittently.

Sounds like you have a bad connection or ground issue somewhere pertaining to the static.

Redraw errors may be a video card driver or video card issue.

I would try the following but, I'm not recommending you do it because I don' know your level of expertise in these matters and the problems you described you'll need a good troubleshooter. That's what Dell Tech support is for.

The following is just to let you know where they might lead you.

If this is the original install of the Operating System and video card drivers from Dell,

1st, I would try uninstalling the video card driver and reinstalling it, it may just be corrupt if that doesn't work,

2nd, reseat the video card in the mobo and make sure there is no other card in the slot next to it, this sometimes can cause issues. If your not comfortable opening a PC case get someone that absolutely knows what he or she are doing, in your case, Dell in home service if you have that, and be sure to do nothing that would void your Warranty.

3rd, a format and fresh install of OS assuming Windows XP and video card drivers to rule out a software issue.

If it still behaves badly it's a hardware issue somewhere from a poor ground on the motherboard to a variety of issues. Even for an expert builder like me the above can become very time consuming.

You may just want to exchange the PC; Dell will probably want to do that if they can't correct it with you by phone. Hope you get a good tech person.

Last Dell, many years ago and a lot has changed since then, I had a lot of issues and corruption and nothing Dell told me to do would work until I reinstalled OS and everything else. It was so corrupt it would not run without freezing for more than a few minutes. Worst experience ever, but now I'm a 2407FPW customer after 10 years.

Good luck and Dell does make very good PC's. Use their support.

Hope this helps.

Good Day!
