All monitors can cause glare, but you should be able to adjust the brightness if that is the issue. Most have buttons right on the front (+ and -) that you can easily adjust depending on the room conditions. If you have screen glare from lighting or daylight through windows, reposition the monitor. If you have overhead lighting try to elevate the monitor then tilt it down. Most LCD screens can be tilted down easily , CRT of course will have to be positioned. You also can purchase a glare screen  at any office supply house or large computer stores. It positions over the entire screen and many folks like these, I don't. You pay too much for brightness, contrast ratio and clarity I think to just cover it all up.

Lower the contrast, often it is set at 100% which will bother your eyes in normal lighting. Also, set refresh rate at 75 or 85 hz if you have a CRT monitor.
