problems with DP in a new U2713H

Hi,

I just bought a U2713H monitor, connected it to my Precision t3500 workstation with the provided DP cable and got a message along the lines of "no DVI signal, going to power save mode in 5 min".

I then connected with DVI cable and it worked straight away. But since I'd like to use DP instead, I went to the screen menu and set the input to DP and connected the DP cable, but again I got a message, this time "no DP signal going to power save mode in 5".

Am I doing something wrong or should I assume that the monitor is faulty?

Thanks

Hello Klaus77,

I would request you to check with another Display Port cable if the issue persists.

In case the issue persists, perform a Factory Reset of the monitor from the OSD menu and then try to set the Input Source to Display Port and check if that helps.

DVI and DP are the same when it comes to the video signal. The only difference is that DP also carries an audio signal.

The U2713H has DP (DisplayPort)  in, mDP (mini DisplayPort) in, and DP (DisplayPort) out. So it appears you are using this -

computer video card DP --> DP to mDP cable --> mDP on the monitor

The resolution the monitor wants to use is 2560x1440. So you must go into your computer video card display settings and change the desktop resolution to 2560x1440.

Thanks Allan,

I tried your second solution with no luck, I'm contacting the distributor to see if i can get a new cable.

Sounds strange, I never had a faulty cable from Dell before..

I doubt the monitor port is bad. I was in the lab last week. We had several bad DP cables out of the packaging. Visually, DP and DVI are identical.

Thanks Chris,

what does it mean that visually they are identical? I'm a bit behind in technicalities but to my knowledge dvi is the big chunky port and DP is the thin USB-like one?, not sure what you mean.

So,

Just to reinforce the cliche of the newbie, it was me. As I'm new to these types of ports I thought that mini display was DP (I selected the input as mini display and the image came up now), however my windows bottom bar has disappeared and ctrl+alt+del brings up a black screen, I'm sure I'm missing something still, something with the resolution or aspect ratio..
