Refresh Rate on 2407WFP

I just purchased a 2407WFP, and think it's an awesome monitor!  I have it set to the default setting of 1920x1200, high color, with 60hz refresh rate.  As with every other LCD monitor I've owned, I notice that the screen flashes periodically, particularly in applications like Excel where you are changing things a lot - the default 60hz refresh is simply not high enough.  However, 60hz is the maximum refresh rate that is allowed for the 2407WFP (I have the Dell driver installed) when the "hide modes the monitor cannot display" checkbox is checked.  If I uncheck the box, then additional refresh rates of 75hz, 85hz, and 100hz become available.  I selected the 75hz rate, and VOILA!, the flashing problem is fixed.  Usually in Windows, if you select a disply mode and/or refresh rate the monitor can't handle, you'll either just get a black screen, or the display will revert back to the default.  The 2407WFP seems to have accepted the 75hz refresh - the display is bright, beautiful and stable.

Will I potentially be doing any damage to the monitor by using this higher refresh rate?

Are you using a VGA or DVI connection to the 2407WFP?

Hmm, what brightness level do you have your screen set to? I get quite a bit of flickering at lower brightness levels even when I uncheck "hide modes the monitor cannot display" and select 75hz.

I'm using the default 50% brightness.  I was just reading the posts about the flickering at lower brightness levels, but what mine is doing is not a flicker at all.  The entire screen flashes (very quickly, but enough to notice), like the whole display is being refreshed.  I have not noticed it since switching to a 75 hertz refresh rate.  I have, in fact, had to do this on EVERY LCD monitor I've had (this is my 4th one now, a mix of Dell, Samsung and Viewsonic).  The 60 hertz default rate flashes, whereas the higher refresh rates do not.  But, on all the other ones I've owned, the 75 hertz refresh rate was "native" and allowed for the monitor, but not on this Dell.  It seems to be working fine using it, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to do some damage by forcing a faster refresh rate than what it's supposed to do.  If so, I'll have to return the monitor, because the flashing is not acceptable to me.  I am EXTREMELY sensitive to monitor flicker.  I had to have my CRT monitor set at a minimum of 100 hertz refresh to not notice a flicker.
