refresh rate on P991

I have a P991 Monitor that I enjoy setting the refresh rate as high as it will support, 120 hz. Will this have any adverse effect on the life of the monitor, or is there an optimal refresh rate to set at that  will ensure maximum stabilty?

Setting the Optimal Resolution: Dellâ„¢ UltraScan P991 Color Monitor User's Guide

For optimal monitor performance while using the Microsoft® Windows operating systems, set the display resolution to 1024x768 or 1280x1024 (the characters will appear smaller in the 1280x1024 resolution) by performing the following steps:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Display icon in the Control Panel window, and then click the Settings tab.
  3. In the Desktop area, move the slidebar to 1024 by 768 or 1280 by 1024 pixels. Then click OK.

If you use optimal rates, the monitor will run cooler and the picture will be clearer than using the 120hz rate. I tried the 120 hz on my Sony, just softens the detail. Just try various rates, and pick the lowest one that is flicker free without blurring. The monitor will run coolest if the image flickers, like 60 or 72 hz. I use 85 hz 1024 by 768.Cooler running should last longer.
