I am confused because a PC VGA out port cannot upconvert to a monitor HDMI in port via a straight cable? So I do not know how you are getting anything sent to the S2421HGF HDMI in port? Unless you are using some kind of VGA to HDMI converter box?
Mohan, a VGA source (computer's side) can not convert to HDMI (monitor's side) without an additional USB cable. have a look at this picture below. Possibly you are not connecting the USB cable,.
P.S. Am a system admin too, a Gaming monitor connected to a power edge server ???
Fix : Change your monitor settings As suggested in the error message, you can change your input timing to the specific resolution and refresh rate (in my case it’s 1920×1080@60Hz) or any other monitor listed timing as per monitor specifications. So you should change these monitor settings to match.
If you’re using Windows 10 and Windows 8:
Note: if you have more than one displays, choose the displays respectively for the following steps. Right click on any empty area on your desktop, then select Display Settings.
In the Display section, scroll down and find Resolution, and change it to the specific resolution (in my case I choose 1080×1920).
Click Keep changes if you see the popup verification dialog.
Then click Advanced display settings on the same screen.
Click Display adapter properties for Display.
Click the Monitor tab in the popup pane, and change Screen refresh rate to the one shown in your error message (in my case it’s 60Hz).
Click Apply and OK to save the changes.
If you’re using Windows 7:
Note: if you have more than one displays, choose the displays respectively for the following steps. Right click on any empty area on your desktop, then select Screen resolution.
Change Resolution to the specific resolution
Click Apply.
Click Keep changes if you see the verification message.
On the same screen, click Advanced settings.
Click the Monitor tab, and choose the specific refresh rate shown in your error message (in my case I choose 60Hz).
Click Apply and OK to save the changes.
Restart your computer in normal mode and see if it works.
