S2716DG, A03/A05, DP will not wake with two inputs
Hello!
I am experiencing basically the same issue as described in this thread.
I have two Dell S2716DG Gaming monitors.
I have two computers.
Computer 1 is:
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19041)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz (8 CPUs)
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
Connected to Monitor 1: DP out to DP in
Connected to Monitor 2: DP out to DP in
WPP: Balanced (Custom - all sleep and power save functions off)
Resolution Settings: 2560x1440, 144Hz, G-SYNC, (both monitors)
Computer 2:
Operating System: Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit (10.0, Build 19042)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400F CPU @ 2.90GHz (6 CPUs)
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
Connected to Monitor 1: DP out to HDMI in
Connected to Monitor 2: HDMI out to HDMI in
WPP: Balanced
Resolution Settings: 2560x1440, 60hz, (both monitors)
Monitors:
Monitor 1 SN: CN-0HG4VW-QDC00-77C-060U-A05 (Built July 12, 2017)
Purchased from: Dell
Monitor 2 SN: CN-0NNV54-74261-5CC-04NQ-A03 (Built December 12, 2015)
Purchased from: Dell
I use a USB switch to flip my keyboard and mouse between the two computers.
Both computers remain on and active at all times while connected to the monitors. Both monitors have deep sleep disabled. Both monitors have been factory reset.
Computer 1 has had all sleep functions disabled in power settings, and should never sleep. Computer 1 has had Nvidia's DisplayPort 1.3 and 1.4 firmware update applied.
When I use Computer 2, I switch to the HDMI in on both monitors, and everything works fine. The monitors correctly detect and activate. I have never had this fail to my knowledge. However, if I try to switch back to Computer 1 by changing the inputs on my monitors to DP, the input will change, and then the monitors will go into power save mode.
This seems to only happen if the monitors have been set to HDMI for a while (usually an hour or so). When this occurs, the only way I seem to be able to get the monitors to re-detect and function with computer 1 is to reboot the computer. Turning the monitors off and on does not seem to work. Unplugging the monitors and plugging them back in does not seem to work.
The old thread didn't seem to have a solution to the issue attached, but this is a huge pain, so any help would be appreciated.

I am having this exact same problem and I have come accross a great numerous number of threads with the same issue and NONE appear to have any solultion. Seems Dell either responds and pulls the "oh we dont do any work with apple sorry bye" excuse (which is nonsense because apple is always connected via HDMI and not the computer with any issues - or its all windows in your case and they just say nothing.
I have the S2716 and the S2417 and they both have the same problem. I am able to solve it by unplugging and replugging the monitors DP plugs back in (which is a major pain). It would seem that the DP connected device loses connection with the monitor at random while the HDMI input is selected. both my computers are windows (hdmi to hdmi, and dp to dp) and neither are allowed to go to sleep but somehow the system is disconnecting itself from the DP monitor while that input is not selected. It must be a problme with these monitors as they never disconnect themselves while the DP input is active, only when I switch to HDMI does the monitor decide to trash the DP input connected device.
