S2722DC, USB Type-C, Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IML, flicker

Hello,

I just bought Dell S2722DC. I connected it via the included USB Type-C to C cable to the Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IML (Intel onboard) USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 2 port. I wanted to use PD (power delivery) to power my laptop, but it's not working correctly. Laptop is charging but the S2722DC is flickering, randomly black screens (disconnects), some artifacts. It can work for a while without any issues and randomly start to break.

The only solution I found is to plug the external power to the laptop. This solves all problems desribed by me above, but I don't want to two power sources for my laptop.

These problems don't occur when connecting via HDMI (but without PD).

What is the issue? I downloaded S2722DC driver from Dell site. I've upgraded my Windows 10 OS to the latest version, I have latest drivers.

I've just received replacement type-c cable from Dell - it works without any issues the same as Unitek cable. It was something wrong with previous Dell cable, but series of these cables are ok for both PD and Displaport.

Unfortunatelly, it's well known problem in Lenovo laptop, and thet don't care about it.

Type-c powering & display at the same time works fine only when battery is draining or powering (0% - ~97%). Otherwise it doesn't work correctly.

Hello,

I have similar configuration. Dell S2722DC with USB C connected directly to USB C  port on Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 (AMD board). Monitor is randomly starting to break! I send Monitor to repair back to Dell but they do not find any mistake and they return it to me. They tested it and they said that it works but in my configuration problem is still present. I have Windows 11 installed.

If I connect Dell monitor via HDMI to USB C dongle and then to USB C port on my Lenovo notebook, then Dell monitors work ok.

I can confirm that the problem has been fixed by replacing the USB C cable. Thank you Dell.

@DELL-Jesse L @bone12

I could not believe it, but I bought Unitek USB 3.2 Gen2 C14082ABK cable and it started to work flawless!

It means that usb-c cable delivered with Dell monitor is not efficient enough to work both with Power delivery and Display port.

Our replacement USB Type-C to C cable (USB 3.2, Gen 1, PD 65W, 1.8m/5.9ft) worked for bone12 Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2.

Perhaps like bone12, your original Dell USB Type-C to C cable was just faulty?
