Screen Resolution

I was wondering if ANYONE could help. I have a dimension 2400 that i bought in october of last year, within two weeks the thing crashed and speaking to the technical support team for six hours on the phone left the system in a worse state than when i started the call. I've had repeated promises that it would be sorted out, yet even after five months, my pc still sits idle because i simply do not have time to spend six or more hours on the phone. All i wanted to know was how to change my screen resolution. I click  all the right things up until you have to drag across the bar and this is my problem, it DOESN'T drag across. I can click on it and it changes from green to orange to show i'm on it,but i simply cannot drag the bar across. Somebody please help, my patience is gone and i'm on the verge of simply getting my money back. Thanks for any help.

The driver for your video graphic's, might be corrupted.  If you are using the integrated video, you should have the driver for that integrated video on a Dell disk somewhere. If not, get back to use and we will find you one for your system. Find it and keep it handy for now.   If you have a true dedicated video card, than obtain the current video driver from the web site for that card. IE :  Nvidia.com  for the nvidia cards or ATI.com  for the ati cards.  Keep the driver handy.

Now, use the driver cleaner below, and clean all the driver code off your system.  Reboot the computer  ( You will now see  larger screen fonts, don't worry about this ), than install the video card driver that you have on hand, reboot the system.  After you reboot the computer, go into Display Properties and set the resolution and click Apply.  The screen should go blank for a second or two, than another box will appear in the upper left hand side needing confirmation that you want to keep the new settings.  Click OK and now you should have the resolutions set.  If you wait too long and do not click OK in the confirmation box, the screen resolution will go back to where it was, and you have to start over.  However, I do not know what monitor you have.  LCD's have a native resolution for each size and using anything else will give you less than a good picture.  CRT's are deferent and you can use various setting depending on the video card and monitor.  Try this...Good luck

( Let us know what video card you are using, ie, integrated or dedicated, and what kind of monitor as well )

I had a same problem. My XPS B series crash and when I reloaded my 98 operating system I could't able to change my screen resolution. It just stuck at 680x 480. because of that I could't able to go on use my DSL to surf on the internet. I spend lot of timewith Dell tech. I reformate my hard drive. Noluck. I order new graphic card from Dell. No luck. Finally some call center of Dell in Manila told me that I do not have hardware problem. It could be BIOS. And ask me if I can install Window XP on my system. I did. I installed XP pro and I am back in the business. I took the Dell new video card and instlled the original one and it works very well.
