For what its worth, I have the same setup & the monitor has started developing this problem after a year. The frustrating thing is that there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to why it is happening, since then it might be easier to diagnose and fix. Another thread at http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=34703 describes a similar problem, but no solutions were offered other than to check to make sure the cables are firmly placed. You may want to try fiddling with the cables the next time it occurs & see if the monitor comes back from the white or not, since if it does, it may indicate the connector cables are faulty. If anyone has other suggestions, I hope they'll pass them along.
I had the same problem recently, and I had to replace my monitor. I did not buy the monitor from Dell though. When I had called tech support about the problem, the person told me I needed a new video card, which obviously wasn't the case. I don't have the white screen problem with my new monitor.
If you replace the monitor, I'm sure it will fix your problem.
