Small white dots across screen

This morning I noticed a thin line of white and black dots across my screen. They run fro the windows button in the bottom left to the top right of the screen.

  • When I switch to high colour (16 bit) they are not visible. If I switch back to true colour (32 bit) they are visible
  • When I ran dead pixel buddy most of the dots appear white on the black background. Some coloured ones show up on the white background
  • I've updated my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 5700) to the latest drivers
  • More white dots appear when I move a window around. If I then minimise the window these dots will disappear.

Which leads me to my question. Does this look like a monitor fault or a problem with the graphics card? The graphics card is about 3-4 months old. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It looks to be a video card issue. Can you test the monitor on another PC? Have you tried all of the video card ports?

I've tried both of the ports on the graphics card - same problem.

When I plugged the screen into a different computer the dots dissappeared... so looks like it's a problem with my graphics card or the DVI cable?

Thanks for your help, I'm about to find out how good ATI's support is... The card's only 6 months old.
