ST2210 onscreen controls pop up randomly

My 3.5 year old Dell ST2210 monitor randomly, and frequently, pops up the onscreen menu for controlling brightness, etc..  Right now, it's doing it about every 10 seconds.  Sometimes it won't do it for hours at a time, but lately it's very frequent. Irritating, to say the least.  I can't see how it is Win7 OS related, so is my monitor worn out?  The 3 buttons on the right edge used to be functional, causing the menus to come up, but now they seem useless. I'm on an HDMI connection. Any ideas, other than buying a new monitor?

C. W. Smith,

* Turn off the computer
* Turn off the monitor
* Disconnect all cables from the monitor (power cord, VGA, DVI, HDMI, audio, etc.)
* Press and hold in the monitor power button for 15 seconds
* Reconnect only the monitor power cord to the bottom of the monitor
* Turn on the monitor
* In this state, does the OSD (On Screen Display) appear by itself?
- If yes, the monitor is defective
- If no, reconnect the HDMI cable from the monitor to the computer
* Turn on the computer. Once into Windows, does the OSD (On Screen Display) appear by itself?

Thanks for the help. I followed the above instructions. The OSD did not appear by itself, after turning the monitor on. It showed a message "no HDMI cable".

So, I connected that, next, and when I brought Win7 up, the OSD did not appear.  I've been using it now, for about an hour, and still no OSD has shown. I'd love to think that this procedure has "fixed" something, but it has gone hours, or even days, before without showing the OSD.    Now, I will push the bottom right button to try to bring the OSD up on purpose (that hasn't been working, lately, while the OSD has been flashing up randomly). ... It worked this time.

Thank you, again, for the help. I hope we've fixed it.  At least, I guess, we have proved the monitor is not "defective".

Uh, oh!  It's baaaaaaack.  The OSD just popped up a couple of times, a few minutes ago.  Back to the drawing board?

Do you have other computer video out ports (VGA/DVI) to test on the monitor? If yes, do this and see if the OSD issue follows.

I have it connected by DVI now.  The issue is still there.  I don't have a VGA on my PC, or a DVI-to-VGA adapter.  Guess I'll put it back to HDMI, and live with it. :emotion-9:

Thanks again for trying.
