thin line on flat screen

Hi folks:

This is my first time here and I hope someone can help.

I have a 19 inch flat screen which is fine but yesterday, it has a thin line running across the screen about 3 inches from the bottom. It's very annoying....especially when I consider that I went out of my way for a very good monitor.

If you have any ideas, I would appreciate it.........Hope you can be patient. Sadly, I do not speak computerese.

I had a very thin line across my lcd monitor and it was sent back for replacement.  Call tech support and they will go through some attempts to solve the problem, and when they determine that its defective, they will set you up with a refurbished monitor if it is past the 21 day return policy period.  If it is still within the 21 days, they will send you out a new monitor.  Good luck

Mondocharlie,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Which Dell monitor do you have? Some monitors have a thin line at the top and bottom. These lines are called damper wires and are part of the design of the monitor.

Mondocharlie,

Try the steps below to see if that will resolve your issue.

  • Perform monitor reset
  • Push Auto Adjust button
  • Adjust Phase and Clock controls via OSD
  • Perform monitor self-test feature check and determine if these lines are also in self-test mode
  • Check for bent or broken pins

Note: When using '2: Digital Input', the Pixel Clock and Phase adjustments are not available.

Thanks Jesse:

I wish I understood this better. I don't have much info on this monitor and I really don't know what all this is. I can follow instructions if I can understand them but I don't know where this stuff is. I have three adjusting buttons for display on the front, that's all I know. I don't see much else on monitors in my programs.

I'm not well-versed in this kind of thing and I'm afraid to root around without knowing that I won't make it worse.
At least I got here though. You've let me know that I'm not alone....sadly I guess....

Thanks folks,

Charlie
