U2212HM, PC HDMI to DP does not work

Was a solution ever found for this issue? I just purchased two Dell U2212HM monitors and having the same issue here. I connected the HDMI to DisplayPort into my monitors using my Dell Latitude 7390 and its not picking up the signal. It defaults to power save mode the minute it is plugged in.

@ElCapitan97  As already stated in the old thread, DisplayPort to HDMI cables can only be used to connect a DisplayPort source to an HDMI input.  They cannot be used to connect an HDMI source to a DisplayPort input.  This is because most (but not all) DisplayPort sources support sending an HDMI signal using a capability called "Dual Mode DisplayPort", but HDMI sources do NOT support sending a DisplayPort signal, and displays will not accept a native HDMI signal through their DisplayPort inputs.

If you need to connect two U2212HM displays to your Latitude 7390, then you have a few options:

  • Connect one display using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable (USB-C side in laptop, DP side in display) and the other using an HDMI to DVI cable (HDMI side in laptop, DVI side in display).
  • Get a USB-C DisplayPort MST hub that will plug into your system's USB-C port and give you at least 2 DisplayPort outputs.  Then use regular DisplayPort cables to connect each display to the outputs of that MST hub.  You will be able to use them in Extend mode even though they're connected to the same port, unlike HDMI where a splitter would only use Mirror mode.  USB-C and DisplayPort can run multiple independent displays from a single output.
  • Get a docking station like the WD19 and connect your displays to that.
