U2312HM monitor backlight problems

I have problems similar to the one reported here. When changing the resolution, or switching between monitors using Win+P (I am using two monitors, the other one is an ST2210), the backlight occasionally does not turn on or the bottom right corner backlight is dark. See the image below for the dark corner. For the former, I know the image is being displayed as I can make out my desktop by shining a flashlight on the monitor. Factory reset did not fix it and built-in diagnostics passed. I bought this monitor in March 2013, but this has been happening for a little while now.

You need to post pictures of your monitors in action showing the issue. Test the problem monitor by itself on the computer and post pictures of it showing the issue.

This is a picture of my monitor showing the issue. Where did I indicate that the monitor in photo is not?

In case it wasn't obvious, I have two problems that appear to be caused by the same action(s). When changing resolution, using Win+P to switch between monitors, or starting games, sometimes one of these two problems occur:

  1. The backlight in the bottom right corner is dark as shown in the photo in my original post.
  2. The backlight does not turn on at all. An image is indeed being displayed as the power button LED remains blue (the "on" state) and an image can be seen by shining a bright flashlight onto the screen. This appears to be the same issue as the one in the thread I linked to (URL corrected now). You indicated that it is likely a defect that is worthy of exchange.

Where did I indicate that the monitor in photo is not?
"Your statement, "I have problems similar to the one reported here.", sounded like you were referencing the picture as "the one reported here".

Disconnect the monitor from the computer. Run the monitor Built-in Diagnostics, pages 37, 38:

Post pictures of those colored screens.

Each of the four screens are below. No problems with the backlight here. I had been using a DisplayPort cable with this monitor. I have switched back to the supplied DVI cable and will see if the problem returns.

An update with the DVI cable: I still got occasional blackouts when changing resolution or starting fullscreen games. I did not encounter the dark bottom right corner yet.

Bumped for still having the problem of backlight occasionally not turning on when switching multiple monitor modes or resolution, even with supplied DVI cable.

All you can do is contact Dell Canada Order Support and arrange for a monitor exchange. Read this.
