U2412M Black and Flickering Screen
I purchased a U2412M a few months back and I have had an issue that has been occurring intermittently. What happens is half the screen will go entirely black and the other half begins flickering and is unreadable. Obviously when this issue occurs the monitor is unusable. It used to only last about 5-10 minutes or so and would go away. Today however it happened and has not gone away. I tried updating the video drivers and tried multiple cables to connect the monitor to the computer and it still did not resolve the issue. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Hi Mjaisit,
Welcome to Dell Community Forum.
Please run the Self Test Feature Check on your monitor to determine if the issue is with the monitor or with the system.
The self-test feature of the Dell U2410 monitor allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If the monitor and computer are properly connected, but the monitor screen remains dark, you need to run the self-test feature.
The following are the steps for running the self-test feature:
To ensure the proper self-test process, remove both the digital (white connector) and the analog (blue connector) cable from the rear side of the computer.
A floating message box appears on screen with a black background, if the monitor is working correctly but cannot sense a video signal. While the monitor is in the self-test mode, the power LED remains blue. Also, based on the selected input, a dialogue box will continuously scroll through the screen.
Let the monitor remain in this screen for a few minutes and check if the screen flickers here as well.
Please keep me posted on the results of this test so that I may assist you further.
Thanks and regards,
Babita S

Thanks for the quick response!
I performed the test as asked, and the screen does not flicker during the test. Does this mean its the connection between the computer and the monitor?

Just as an update, I tried more troubleshooting today. I tried plugging the monitor into my other laptop and it worked fine, so it seems the issue is using the monitor with my desktop. I then tried updating both the drivers for the monitor and drivers for the video card on the desktop, but both did not resolve the issue. The screen is still almost completely black with some flickering in the non-black region. Are there any other suggestions for troubleshooting the issue?

Hi Mjaisit,
Thank you for your reply.
The monitor seems to be working fine since the screen does not flicker during the Self Test Feature Check or when connected to a different computer.
This isolates the issue to be with either the video cable or the computer itself. Are you using the same video cable when connecting your monitor to a different computer?
The issue could also be with the video card or the motherboard itself.
Please let me know if your desktop is also a Dell so that I am able to assist you further.
Thanks and regards,
Babita S

Hi,
I have the same issue, as posted by the previous user, and as seen in this video
I use my Dell u2412m as external display (via display port) and as TV (via DVI-hdmi cable). The problem is seen in both modes.
First I noticed that flickering is more common when view is white or light (for example, when Chrome is open). When I close or minimize Chrome, it is OK, but only for several seconds. TV also shows some channels OK, some not OK, and later nothing is shown OK. Even after turning the display off/on.
No distractions are near the display (no speakers or other electromagnetic sources), just the display on a desk.
Please help as soon as possible, because my warranty is reaching its end and I am not sure if I should take the display back to where I bought it...
