Wont work

DP > HDMI works with any kind of cable.

But HDMI > DP will only work if you have an Active Cable

As you are going from lower speed port to a higher speed port, you need a cable with booster also known as Active cable.

@XPS_Man  It’s important to clarify some information in your post.

First, DP to HDMI does NOT always work with any kind of cable. To use basic passive DP to HDMI cables successfully requires the source DisplayPort output to support Dual Mode DisplayPort, which allows it to switch to native HDMI signaling in order to send a signal to an HDMI input. That is implemented widely on systems and docks, but it is not ALWAYS implemented. It is an OPTIONAL feature of the DisplayPort spec, so it will not ALWAYS work.

Additionally, there are different types of “active” DP to HDMI cables. Some are designed to connect an HDMI source to a DP input as you describe. But there are also “active” DP to HDMI cables that are still designed to connect a DisplayPort source to an HDMI input. They are designed to be used with systems that do not support Dual Mode DisplayPort or where using that capability isn’t allowed, such as when using an AMD EyeFinity setup. So not all active DP to HDMI cables will allow you to connect an HDMI source to a DP input.

@Sharkteeth  In terms of your original question, if you have a DisplayPort output available, get a basic DisplayPort cable and set the display to its DisplayPort input, and you should be fine. But fyi when asking for technical assistance like this, it helps to provide basic technical info. In this case, providing the specific system model and dock model you’re using might be useful.
