U2413, DUCCS, Windows 10?

I am a photographer, and I bought a Dell U2413 in January of 2015, specifically because this monitor could be color calibrated. In order to perform the calibration, however, you are required to also purchase an X-Rite i1 Display colorimeter that came with proprietary software for use only on Dell's Ultrasharp line of monitors. At the time I bought this, I was running a computer with Windows 7. Everything worked great.

Skip to December of 2015, less that a year later. I bought a new Dell computer with Windows 10. I get ready to get the calibration software off Dell's website, and do not see my monitor listed. I download the latest software anyway, and then proceed to try to calibrate my monitor. Immediately the software shows that it does not recognize my monitor. I contact X-Rite and complain because they have not updated their software to recognize my monitor. A support rep with X-Rite gets right back with me and says

I see that you are using Dell's Ultrasharp Color Calibration software with your Dell U2413.
I'll forward this matter to the Dell support team who handles this product.
X-Rite did create the software for Dell, but Dell has asked that they be the support method for any users of the Dell version of profiling software.

I can't see on Dell's website anywhere where the color calibration software for this monitor (again, which is less than 1 year old) is being supported under Windows 10. Surely Dell is not going to be so sleazy as to leave a customer with a product less than 1 year old out in the cold. Without this software, this monitor does me no good because I cannot be assured that it is color calibrated when I am processing photos in Lightroom and Photoshop. If the monitor is not properly color calibrated, then any photos I send off to be printed will come back with incorrect colors. Has anyone talked to Dell about this and gotten any assurances that this problem is going to be corrected?

I know that this is probably not the answer you want to hear, but if you can't get the latest version of DUCCS (1.5.10) to recognize your U2413 in Windows 10, then the only alternatives that you have is to keep a copy of Windows 7 around to do the hardware calibration (just copy the .icc profiles over afterward) or calibrate with software using i1 profiler from x-rite or dispcalGUI.

Chris (the Dell rep) has confirmed in the past that there will be no Windows 10 support for your monitor.

Update. According to the changes since August on the U2413 driver page, Windows 10 is now supported.

When you click "view details" right of "Dell XRITE Monitor Application", it shows Windows 10 =

That is 1.5.8 which was the first Windows 10 version. Once installed, use its auto update function and see if it offers any.

Thanks for the info Chris and tenderchkn. Chris, I saw the information on Dell's website that indicates that the X-Rite software and Dell's Ultrasharp Calibration Software were Windows 10 compatible. However, when I installed the software, and then went to Display Profiling in the calibration software, it shows my U2413 as DELF047, instead of Dell U2413, like it is supposed to say. I spent two hours on the phone with a software support tech for Dell today going over this problem, and he said it looked like I should go back to Windows 7 Professional. We went through the restore to Windows 7 Professional, and I reloaded the software, and now the software recognizes the U2413 monitor.

I also discussed this issue with a tech at X-Rite today. I had sent them a somewhat nasty message that I was upset that I bought an Ultrasharp Monitor, and then had to buy an X-Rite i1 Display Pro colorimeter with software proprietary to Dell Ultrasharp monitors, all at a cost of around $625.00, less than a year ago, and already it was outdated and not being supported. The X-Rite tech said that they had no say in the support area for this software, although they obviously wrote the code for the software, and that Dell maintained control of the support for the software.

So, I guess Dell has made the conscious decision to leave untold numbers of purchasers of these Ultrasharp Monitors out in the cold without any support when they update to Windows 10, which Dell almost forces on you when you buy a computer with Windows 7. I really like the Dell monitors, but because of the bad taste this leaves in my mouth, this will probably be the last monitor (or computers or anything else) I buy from Dell that is intended to be color calibration capable since it is obvious at this point that Dell is not going to take care of their customers and support their software when a new version of Windows comes along. I have spent thousands of dollars with Dell over the years buying computers, laptops and monitors for myself and other people who rely on me for computer tech advice. Unless Dell fixes this issue soon, I will no longer buy any more products from Dell or advise any of my friends to buy any Dell products. Come on guys, you are better than this!

All I can do is send the data to our Displays team and suggest that they discuss this with X-rite. The X-rite device should be tested connected directly to the computer. After installing the Windows 10 U2413 driver, did the U2413 appear in the Device Manager- Monitors? Did it appear at Control Panel- Appearance and Personalization- Adjust screen resolution (the monitor model name should be listed next to "Display:") ?

Thanks for your reply Chris. Sorry if I come off as being a little agitated, but this thing is getting the best of me. After talking to a Dell software tech yesterday, we restored my computer to Windows 7 Professional. I uninstalled all the calibration software and X-Rite software, then reinstalled the Dell Ultrasharp Calibration Solution software. After a reboot, I opened the calibration software. It recognized my monitor. I then proceeded through the software until I got to the prompt to Start Measurement. This opened up the screen where you place the X-Rite colorimeter to begin the calibration. It then started the process, but then an error message popped up that said "Could not set the display preset (CAL1 or CAL2). Error communicating with the display. Please verify the USB connection. Power cycle the display, restart the application and try again". I then unplugged the colorimeter from one USB port and plugged it into another USB port, just to make sure I was not experiencing a problem with that particular port. I started the software again, and then got the same message. I'm all out of solutions at this point. The Dell software tech I spoke with yesterday is supposed to call me this afternoon to see if I was able to get everything working. I'm leaving the error message up so he can take control of my computer and see what is happening. Could it be that Windows 7 Professional, instead of Windows 7, is my problem?

In your testing, are you plugging the colorimeter directly into the monitor USB downstream ports? If yes, test by plugging the colorimeter directly into the computer USB downstream port.
