AndySpain,

The monitor DP's (DisplayPort) are passive, meaning that they await the computer DP to dictate what needs to be displayed. Is the laptop lid closed when the issue occurs? Is the monitor setup as clone or extended?

To clarify, the monitor is powered up and displaying the Windows login screen at this point.. it will continue to flicker until the screen is reset basically. Laptop lid is open and it is set to project to the second screen only (via Fn F1 on the laptop). Windows is set to use the U2414H as the main display and with the desktop only on 2.

By turning the monitor off/on, you are forcing the laptop DP to re-initialize the DP handshake to the monitor. To me this sounds more like a laptop video issue not sending the correct handshake on reboot.

Thanks

As in a hardware issue or driver?

No idea. Ask the guys out here on the Laptop Video board. Maybe they have seen a similar issue.

Same issue here.

I am using a Mac Mini (OSX 10.8 and Intel HD 4000 graphics) and I have connected the u2414h via hdmi.

When the boot procedure is finished and my desktop should be displayed I just see random noise on the screen (like on a old CRT TV without antenna signal). Just like AndySpain I have to switch the monitor on and off and then everything works fine.

So I assume this is a display issue and not a gfx issue. Any idea?

Update: The noise stays for about 25 seconds, then everything turns to normal automatically. But still very annoying...

Sounds similar! I connected the screen to an Airbook and it did exactly the same so it does seem like it is the monitor. To be honest what with all the other problems with the XPS13 I got at the same time I've completely given up all hope with Dell and just won't bother buying from them again
