Apologies. I just saw this reply. Did you make sure that DP 1.2 was off when you tested the below short term workaround?

Problem =
* When the SP3 is docked and dual displays are connected using DisplayPort Multi-streaming (daisy chain), one or both displays will not be recognized after restart or power cycling the SP3. In either case, the result is no video appearing on external displays.
* Some displays will exhibit video tearing on the secondary display, when setup using DisplayPort Multi-streaming (daisy chain).
* Some display do not return to a displayed video mode after recovery from from power save mode.

Short term workaround =
SP3 Dock mDP out --> Dell mDP to DP cable --> #1 Monitor DP in (DP 1.2 off)
SP3 mDP out --> Dell mDP to DP cable --> #2 Monitor DP in (DP 1.2 off)

Long term solution =
Microsoft is aware of the issue with their dock. They are developing a special connector dongle for the dock which works with the Link Training process to boost the signal strength negotiated with the external monitors. As to when this will be available, sometime in September. Note, the dongle will not be available from stores. You must open a case with Microsoft and show them that the issue occurs when connecting directly to the dock mDP and using dual monitors in a DP 1.2 MST daisy chain. They will then send you the dongle. I have heard from other customers that front line Microsoft support has yet to hear about this dongle. So wait until September to contact them.

The Displays team is still in weekly talks with Microsoft. We are seeing issues on six of our newer monitors with Surface product. At this time, the root cause culprit has not been found. There do seem to be many "workarounds" from customers. We are gathering that Forum data and sending it to Microsoft.

My guess is that letting the SP3 go into InstantGo or hibernation. Then, disconnecting from the dock and trying to reconnect to the dock after being in one of those states is the issue. As a test, before the user disconnects from the dock,
* Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings -Power -Shut down
* Then disconnect from the dock
* Before returning it to the dock, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings -Power -Shut down
* Connect to the dock
* Turn the SP3 on

What happens? Do all monitors work?

Tried above and the monitors still do not come back.  Am having this issue on a second Surface Pro 3, dock and same two Dell monitors with one connected to the dock, the other daisy chained through the DP to the other.  User came in this morning and neither monitor would be recognized.  Powered off and on and still the monitors didn't come up.  Tried running just a single DP out to each monitor separately and neither was recognized.  Finally, found a DP to HDMI cable and was able to get one monitor working out of the dock DP.  I used another DP to HDMI cable from the DP on the Surface itself to connect the second monitor and that seems to be working so far, though this defeats the purpose of the docking station.  I just can't understand why it will work fine and then get to a point where the DPs in to either monitor will not work.  Is there a better Dell monitor where the DP works with a Surface?

Thank you for the information.  The really strange thing that seems monitor related is that somehow the Surface remembers when a monitor(U2414H) stops working on one of the displayport connections.  I had one of our surface users today have one of his monitors go out.  No matter how many times I restarted or switched around the connections, that particular monitor would not work.  I could hook another PC up to it via HDMI, but not displayport.  I then  took another unused U2414H, restarted the Surface and plugged it in to the displayport on the SP3 and it worked.  Almost like the surface or the monitor has something that pairs them and when the monitor stops working, it won't work again with that SP3.  Really weird.  I will try calling MS in September to see about the adapter.

I've been reading this and other forums for a while now and it seems there are still no permanent "fix" for the issues of Surface Pro 3 setup with dual U2414h screens.

We have dozens of these setups, all monitors with manufacture date Jan 2015 and REV03, and nothing that was mention in all of the post that I read worked permanently.

What we end up doing is plugging each monitor to the USB2HDMI external video card adapter and thus bypassing mDP port on the dock completely. This setup seems to be working good, so far, but the problem with it is that each adapter costs $70 plus the price of the HDMI cables.

I saw some posts from the beginning of the year, where it was said that Dell and MS are working to fix this problem, it's almost September now and I still do not see any new solution to it.

Maybe i'm just missing it, but I did try the search on this site, unfortunately it is not very good, to say the least.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
