make sure the port your DVI port you're using on your videocard is dual link, if it's just single the most it will support is 1080P.

I agree, its kind of annoying I can't use HDMI since Microsoft won't fix Windows Media Center so it supports HDCP over Displayport... and I'd like to utilize the built in sound of HDMI/DP.

Thanks for the headsup Luxferro. Now we all know the U2714H does not support HDMI 1.4 so it would be fair to assume the older models also do not suport HDMI 1.4

Now if only Dell would actually correctly specify the product they sell. With respect to the interface, something along the lines of what version of the interface, optional features and optional exclusions and what max resolution is supported should be mandatory on a monitor spec sheets. As such we should all expect something akin to:, Dell U2715H supports HDMI v1.3 with 48bit deep color and xvYCC support, CEC support, E-DCC @ 400kb/s support,  Dolby True-HD & DTS-HD MA support, max resolution 4096x2160p@ 24fps 36bits/px as a fictitious example. Obviously this is not detailed and probably very inaccurate but really, the spec sheet should tell us all about the capabilities of a product we are considering to buy, not that it's shiny and nice..

I have a e4300 and am trying to get a u2713hm to run at 2560x1440.  How can I do it?  Drivers etc are all up to date.  I have a docking station and the cables that came with the monitor. 

Dell only validated the U2713HM HDMI port to do 1920x1080 60Hz. It will do 2560x1440 30Hz. The U2713H HDMI can do 2560x1440 60Hz.

From the U2713HM sales site =

* Click the Tech Specs tab
* Under DISPLAY, Optimal Resolution:
* It states, "2560 x 1440 at 60 Hz"
* Just right of the 1440 is a 4, click the 4
* It states, "Our HDMI is 1.4 compatible and can support up to 1920 x 1080."

This really upsets me... I have 2 of these monitors that I purchased some time ago and I was able to use the Display port with my Dell E6520 laptop- so I've been happy..

I recently upgraded to an XPS-15 with "Ultra high resolution" (3200x1800), I also purchased the "Dell SuperSpeed USB 3.0 docking station.

No matter how I hook these devices together I can't get more than 1920x1080 resolution on my $700 monitors that I specifically bought for the higher resolution!

Something is wrong here- I bought a NEWER laptop from Dell and it's external output compatibility to this monitor is LESS than my old one!?  (it only offers HDMI vs DP on the old one!)

Please advise! I love the XPS-15 but if I can't use it with my monitors then it needs to go back!

Sorry man! I had the same problem. I had to return the HM for the H model. The product site does say, very sneakily and underhandedly, that HDMI is only 1920. Defies logic. 

I actually purchased it from Amazon back in November, the retailer I bought it from didn't define the details at all (and still doesn't). I've emailed them to ask about returning them as I've already ordered the H model.

If your PC has a Display Port, use that. And don't use a docking station. That's how I got my new U2713HM to display the monitor's maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440 with my Dell Latitude E6500 (WinXPProSP3). Just sayin'...

The U2713HM supports 2560x1440@30Hz with HDMI-cable (and the Pentium G4400 Intel HD 510 integrated graphics ).

The U2713HM supports 2560x1440@60Hz with DVI-D DL cable (and a Nvidia Geforce 210 GPU).
