U2719D, Surface Book 2, USB Type-C connection issues
Hi,
I recently bought a U2719D (this was the only monitor available to me, the U2719DC was not available here.)
I have a Surface Book 2, which has a USB Type-C out port. I'm having trouble connecting the U2719D (and keeping it connected) using multiple cables and adapters:
- Surface Book 2 USB Type-C out port --> USB Type-C to HDMI cable --> U2719D HDMI in port = nothing happens, least successful
- Surface Book 2 USB Type-C out port --> USB Type-C to HDMI adapter --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> U2719D HDMI in port = U2719D detected and working but every 10 seconds or so the connection drops. Windows goes back to one display, and then it switches back on, and Windows is catching up again. Not usable, but best current result
- The U2719D came with a DP to DP cable so I just bought a USB Type-C to DP adapter. Result: Windows detects the U2719D and all looks OK in the Display Settings. But the U2719D says no DisplayPort signal detected and goes into sleep mode.
I've done the self tests, power reset, and build in diagnostics. I have unchecked "allow the computer to turn off this device" for all the USB items in Device Manager.
I must say I get a small electric shock if I touch the end of any of these cables that go into the laptop. OR if the cable is in the laptop, I get a small shock if I touch the laptop. I'm not sure if that's normal. Could this be related? Both laptop and U2719D are connected to a grounded socket.
I'm now wondering what cable or adapter to buy that would guarantee a good connection. A single USB Type-C to DP cable? A better USB Type-C to HDMI adapter (since I suspect this one is half faulty?). That would be the fourth adapter of that kind though.
Or what I can do to get the DisplayPort with the new adapter to work?

I finally got it to work by buying a direct USB Type-C to DP cable. It is still strange that it didn't work with my new HDMI cable? And I learned that a decent USB Type-C to HDMI or DP adapter is hard to come by these days.
But glad its working ^_^
