U2723QE, two daisy chain, no 4K 30Hz issue

Hi team,

I have two DELL U2723QE that are working wonderfully for the most part. However I am having some issues getting 4K 60Hz sometimes from both U2723QE when daisy chained together. I have them set up as follows:

Mac setup (work):

USB-C from Mac to #1 U2723QE MST on, and another USB-C to #2 U2723QE. This works great I get 4K 60hz, looks wonderful.

PC setup (Windows 10):

PC DP out to #1 U2723QE DP in MST on. #1 U2723QE DP out to #2 U2723QE DP in. Exactly as described here in the manual page 40 =

I can get both U2723QE to display picture in 4K with this setup. However, it is only in 30Hz in one or both of the U2723QE. I go into Windows settings -> Display -> Advanced display settings but the only option is 30Hz (or 29.981hz). After plugging and unplugging every cable I can sometimes get one to be 60Hz but not both as desired.

If I just use an HDMI cable from #2 U2723QE to my PC then I can get 4K 60Hz in both U2723QE but this of course less than ideal having to run a second cable and makes some situations for picture in picture not work very well.

Your video card only supports DisplayPort 1.2, so you can only connect one 4K monitor at 60Hz.

I have the same problem with an NVIDIA P4000 that supports DP 1.4, in a ThinkPad P71. I cannot use two 4K monitors with daisy chaining. But having the DELL via the USB-C and another one (Samsung) via separate DisplayPort cable totally works fine. I will also have to set the USB-C priority to "High Resolution" to get even the single Dell to be 60Hz in 4K. So I have the Dell via USB-C and the Samsung via Displayport as the only working setup. I always thought that it had to do with what the USB-C (in my cases also supports Thunderbolt) can handle and that it just doesn't have the bandwidth to support two 4K displays. I wonder if this is true or if just my USB-C port doesn't provide the bandwidth?
