U3421WE, DDM, two MacBook Pro, switching

I have my monitor connected directly to my laptop via USB-c and then connected to my work laptop via DP to a Kensington USB-C hub. For some reason, I can switch the video input to the USB-c connection from DP but I cannot switch back to DP. Also when I switch the video input the USB input is not automatically switched and I have to open my laptop to establish a connection. What should I do to make the switching between Macs seamless because this is very annoying? I have Dell DDM set up on both machines please advise

Hi Chris,

that is pretty much correct. The Mac 2019 uses a usb-c thunderbolt 3 connection to the Kensington usb-c hub, which then outputs both a USB -c connection as well as a DP connection so If I can map it out it my setup looks like this

Mac 2019 (Work Computer) Tb3 port -> USB-C  -> Kensington USB-C Hub -> 2 connections (1 DP, 1 USB-C) -> USB-C goes to another dell monitor I have on the side of desk & DP goes to U3421WE

basically what I'm trying to get at is I have issues switching inputs using DDM and for some reason I can switch to the USB-C from DP but once I have switched my USB upstream doesn't switch and once switched I cant switch back to DP from USB-C

Click the blue DELL-Cares username. Their profile page will appear. On the right click, "Send this user a private message". They will need the private monitor Service Tag and 20 digit serial number. Or you can click the, "Get help now" icon on the right to start a live chat session.

Map it out. I will try, is this correct? =

MacBook Pro 2020 TB3 port --> U3421WE USB Type-C to C cable --> U3421WE USB Type-C upstream port

MacBook Pro 2019 ? port --> ? cable --> Kensington USB Type-C hub
Kensington USB Type-C hub DP out port --> U3421WE DP to DP cable --> U3421WE DP in port

Assuming that you are running macOS DDM 1.50.0.0042?

Did you first install the necessary "Dell_U3421WE_FWUpdate_M2B103_macOS.zip" ? Note, if your U3421WE already has a later firmware version, do not install the older M2B103. Check the U3421WE Menu- Others to see Firmware.

kjustin,

As per the update from the product engineering team, there is a new Firmware here that is  available for Mac OS M2B105 released on 28th Feb. Also, please update DDM released on 15th Feb.

Please make sure that DDM is turned off, uninstalled before updating the Firmware.

If the issue persists please attach a video (upload to cloud and share the link here) of the issue for a better understanding also is it possible to disconnect any USB HUB and try.
