U4320Q, blurry/ghosting when scrolling

Just upgraded from a U3011 to the U4320Q. I am finding the text blur and ghosting when scrolling with the mouse to be borderline unusable. I'm a pretty knowledgeable user and I've tried a few things to alleviate the issue without success. I am using the exact same cables that I used with the U3011. My setup is:

  • Windows 10 20H2
  • AMD 5700 XT GPU
  • Dell U4320Q

Any tips appreciated

The 9 year old U3011 cables were never tested on the new U4320Q. Test using the new cabling that shipped with the U4320Q =
F05PG USB Type-C
KTJ8Y DP 1.4
T516N HDMI 2.0

This was an upgraded 1.4 cable from 2018 but just in case I replaced it with the DP 1.4 cable included with theU4320Q monitor. Unfortunately no change. Still heavily ghosting. What I have found is that moving the brightness and contrast sliders has some effect on the ghosting levels. Also changing the temp settings have some influence on things. But this ghosting should not be present on any setting to the degree it is.

I am narrowing this down now and it seems to be tangentially related to the smooth scroll function in most browsers. There is still ghosting when scrolling in Outlook but it's not as pronounced as web scrolling. The U3011 never had any ghosting with these same setting

After doing some research I am convinced that this is a case of inverse ghosting. There are several threads here on the Dell forums where this has happened to other monitors of different models and was fixed via firmware updates. There are ways to alleviate it by using a custom color tweak and setting the contrast and brightness to other values but the fact remains that this seems like a hardware issue.

I noticed as soon as I switched from an UP3216Q. I don't see how contrast or color settings could matter, aside from changing how noticeable it is. What does affect ghosting is the RESPONSE TIME setting under the Display tab. If the monitor is set to fast, there's a lot of ghosting. If it's set to normal it's minimal and barely even noticeable. I think that it has something to do with how the U4320Q overdrives the pixels to speed up response time
