U4919DW, PBP mode, resolution, #2

I am setting up a new U4919DW monitor for two workstations:
HP z840 with Quadro RTX 5000
HP z640 with GeForce GTX 1060

The aim is to have both machines displaying full screen and switched by KVM which I have achieved. My problem is that the full resolution 5120x1440 is not available so at present both are giving a distorted view at the windows default maximum of 1920x1080. This monitor is replacing 2x 27" monitors with both running as a single desktop on both machines.

Latest video drivers from NVIDIA are on both machines as are latest Dell display drivers and Dell Display Manager. Firmware reports as the latest version.

Cabling is HDMI 1 + USB 1 to computer 1 and HDMI 2 + USB 2 to computer 2 using DP to HDMI cables. Set as PBP although there is a PBP sub in the set up menu that doesn't appear in the manual which HDMI2 needs to be assigned to for that computer to display.

The only way I could get both to display full screen was through the KVM wizard in DDM. Problem was that selecting full screen mucked up the HDMI/USB setting from 1-1 to 1-2 and 2-2 to 2-1. As long as this was done on PC1 changing the settings back fixed this.

My issues are:
1. How to get to full resolution on both machines?
2. Is there a more user friendly way of accessing KVM other than in the monitor menu or in DDM, both a bit gruesome for a smooth workflow?

Thanks

PS I did check this thread and found it a bit alarming so hopefully there is a solution.

U4919DW, PBP mode, resolution

Prior to placing the order I engaged in a chat with Dell and asked specifically if I could achieved what I need. The Dell person went and checked and assured my it could be achieved.

@gishakka  Typical passive DP to HDMI cables rely on the source DisplayPort output supporting “Dual Mode DisplayPort”, which allows the DP output to switch to native HDMI signaling. The fact that you’re getting a signal at all means they support that, but they may only support an HDMI revision that only allows up to 1080p, or possibly up to 1440p, even though the DP output supports much higher resolutions when using native DP signaling. Since the display has a DP input, try a regular DP cable and see what happens there. If that works, then since the display only has one DP input available. get an active DP to HDMI adapter/cable that supports HDMI 2.0 for the other one. Active adapters/cables contain a signal converter chip, which allows the DP output to continue using native DP signaling, so as long as your adapter supports HDMI 2.0, you should then be able to run max resolution. To make sure you get the correct type of active adapter/cable, look for one that mentions AMD EyeFinity support. There’s another type of active adapter meant to connect HDMI sources to DP inputs, which is NOT what you want here.

As for DDM, you can configure hotkeys to switch inputs, and even run a command-line command to do so if you just want a batch file you can click or something. Check DDM’s documentation for that. But first make sure to associate each upstream USB interface with the corresponding video interface you end up using, and then when you switch to a different video input, the USB interface will switch over too. Look at the U4919DW manual for that.

Thanks for that, I had just twigged to the problem likely to being with those cables when I read on the box that they only support 1920x1080. Will report back after different cables arrive.

@jphughan Thanks so much, 2 new active cables and presto! 5120x1440 was the recommended option.
