UP2516D, cannot update firmware, calibrate, #2

I've just bought this, and have some issues. Brightness and Contrast is greyed out in CAL1 and CAL2. These modes are much too bright. I can't install Calibration software (I assume) because can't install firmware update because the UP2516D is not recognized, even though the USB is attached and working. Windows 10, Nvidia GeForce 1050 video card. Using DP with the miniDP on the video card side. Is this UP2516D defective?

Read through this, "Updating the firmware for the Dell UP2516D and UP2716D".

* Was this UP2516D purchased directly from Dell?
* What is the non-private 20 digit S/N and A0x revision?
* What specific PC desktop model?
* Is the UP2516D USB 3.0 upstream cable connected to a USB 3.0 port on the PC? This monitor has two USB 3.0 upstream ports, 7a USB 1 and 7b USB 2, page 9. You have to open the monitor OSD (On Screen Display) -USB Selection and choose the one to which you are connecting
* Does the UP2516D appear in the Device Manager?
* List every video out port on the GeForce GTX 1050

I did not purchase from Dell.

ASRock H97M Pro4, i7 4790K CPU 16 GB ram.

USB cable connected to 3.0 port on computer and to 7a on monitor and USB downstream works. OSD options are greyed out if cable is plugged in. With unplugged cable the options are to pick the monitor display port, which is confusing. Doesn't the monitor already know the port?

In any case I picked USB1 DP, still no joy. Every option picked results in 'Monitor not found.'

UP2516D appears in Device Manager.

The ports on graphic card are mDP, HDMI and DVI-D.

CN-0NGD82-WS200-763-612L A01
Built on 6/3/17. Sold on 2/28/18 to D&H Distributing Co.

This does not sound correct, "With unplugged cable the options are to pick the monitor display port, which is confusing.". Simply unplugging the USB upstream cable from either the PC or the UP2516D should not have any effect on the mDP to DP cable connected to the UP2516D or how the OSD shows the DP connection? You have two options;
* Return the UP2516D to the seller for refund. Purchase a brand new one directly from Dell
* Register the UP2516D into your ownership, then get a refurbished exchange through Dell

Chris, thank you, I have registered with Dell and will proceed from there.

Looking in the manual, on page 45, I realize now that the point of picking the graphics port is so that a mouse and keyboard attached to the monitor will work if a different computer is attached to the monitor. Or so I think, anyhow.
