UP3017Q OLED Monitor Pixel Structure Variation
Greetings,
I recently purchased your $3500 UP3017Q 4K OLED monitor.
From my typical viewing distance of 1 to 2 feet, I was immediately able to notice diagonal breaks in the pixel structure, plus color fringing around the edges of fine black text.
These are usually dead giveaways that the OLED panel uses a PenTile pixel layout rather than a traditional RGB stripe layout. Briefly summarized, the traditional RGB stripe layout has one red, green, and blue subpixel that make up every pixel on the display. PenTile displays will commonly only have two subpixels per pixel: one green and either one blue or one red, so that the subpixels alternate RG-BG.
A PenTile display has one third fewer subpixels than a traditional RGB stripe display. The pixel structure is more visible and to some the display is generally less sharp than an equivalent resolution RGB stripe display.
From my experience using the monitor, as well as some pictures I was able to take of the pixel layout, my monitor appears to use a PenTile pixel layout.
However...
Discussions with some other owners of this monitor, plus pictures they provided of their pixel layout, seem to indicate that they have monitors with an RGB stripe layout.
This leads me to believe that this monitor may have two different OLED panels being used: one RGB stripe, and one PenTile. While I understand that mass production often means that multiple parts need to be sourced, this is a VERY significant variation if true, especially for a product that costs $3500.
Let me be perfectly clear:
1) I AM willing to pay Dell $3500 for an RGB stripe OLED monitor
2) I am NOT willing to pay Dell $3500 for a PenTile OLED monitor
What I am asking of Dell is:
1) Are two different OLED panels being used in this monitor?
2) Are the pixel layouts of the OLED panels different?
3) If so, how can I exchange my seemingly PenTile version of the monitor for the RGB stripe version of the monitor?
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Edit: I'm attaching two images. One of the pixel structure on my version of the monitor, and one of the structure on someone else's.
Mine (notice the alternating red/blue subpixels):
Someone else's (notice the consistent RGB stripe triplet):

I took another look at this through a handheld 30x microscope. This does appear to be an RGB stripe structure, but a variation of it. Basically, the red stripes are offset from each other in every column.
I think the cause of the unusual structure I am seeing along the diagonals and the fringing on text is due to the layout of the red subpixels.
Hopefully this straightens things out.
Edit: It seemed the pixels were BGR, but this was an artifact of the microscope:

There is only one type of panel for UP3017Q.

Thank you for the definitive answer and picture.
