VGA versus DVI, backlight bleed - 2007wfp
Can someone explain to me the importance of the DVI connection? I know that VGA is analog & DVI is digital, but why would one want to use DVI over VGA so much? Is it because of HD capabilities, or what?
My 2007wfp monitor (Rev A00) I got 2 days ago works almost flawless in VGA mode. Only very slight banding that I could live with. We haven't been able to test the DVI connection as my video card (Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 ultra) won't support 1680x1050 resolution (only a max of 1600x1200) so I've got to get a new video card :smileysad:. I use my computer mainly for photo editing, internet/email and some gaming.
Also, has anyone noticed any backlight bleed on their 2007wfp? This is my first LCD monitor, so I'm not sure I know what I'm looking at, but when the screen is black, I can see some lighter areas in some of the corners. If I tilt the monitor up, it goes away some, but not completely. Is some bleeding normal on LCDs?

I'm using an FX5200 with my 2007WFP - it supports 1680x1050 (and probably more). However, I have problems displaying fullscreen video over DVI. I haven't figured out what the cause is.

gpro - when you say that you can't get your's to work in DVI, will it work at 1680x1050 in VGA mode? And when you change the monitor to DVI, it won't display at all? That's what's going on with mine.
Both Dell & Nvidia rep's told me that it'll work in VGA mode, but not in DVI mode. Do you have just the 5200 or the 5200 ultra? Dunno if that would make the difference or not, mine is the ultra.
Either way, I bought a new video card last night (e-Geforce 6200 256mb agp fanless, but bought a fan to go with it in the pci slot) - after rebate it'll only cost $40. So I'm hoping to hook it up today and see just how bad dvi banding is. I think I just noticed my first stuck/swimming pixels (at least 3) on the monitor today too. :smileysad: But I guess that's just part of lcd's from what I've read.
